Crew Building Apple Store Discover 15th Century Ruins
Construction workers building a new flagship Apple Store at number 1, Puerta del Sol in Madrid have found ruins of a 15th century hospital, demolished in 1854. That, however, doesn’t mean that the renovations would be put off or stopped. And here’s why.
Apple was instructed to change the basement flooring to trace the ruins, so, according to Jaime Ignacio Muñoz, the head of the Madrid's heritage department, now there’s no reason for holding up the construction.
Apple would also mark the place with a special plaque giving basic information about the ruins. Now company from Cupertino can attract customers not only releasing new devices, but also inviting people to see the 1400th hospital under the store.
According to the latest information, the Puerta del Sol's Apple Store would be the biggest not only in Madrid, but with 6,000 square feet of the building occupied, it is expected to be even more spacious than the famous Fifth Avenue location in New York.
