Microsoft Exec States Tablets And Smartphones Will Not Replace PCs
Frank Shaw, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President, said that now industry is in a “PC plus” era and rejected that “Post-PC” era has begun.
He said that such devices as tablets, eReaders and smartphones are complementary devices, and not PC killers. Shaw states that PCs can do “uniquely well” a set of important things and also PCs are increasingly improving at fields where other devices perform better.
He claimed that "non-PC" devices are more helpful in communication and consumption, but they are worse than PC in collaborating and creation. He said that in Microsoft’s vision for the future of the industry, different powerful devices will connect with cloud services to help users to communicate, collaborate, consume and create information. Also Microsoft stated that over time tablets, PCs and smartphones will be unified into a single ecosystem. However, Apple has opposite view on the future development of the industry. Steve Jobs said Last year that laptops will be eventually replaced by iPads.
With iOS 5 release this fall, Apple is going to make an important step away from PСs. New iOS 5 will have a "PC-free" design and will seamlessly interact with iCloud.
