Samsung's Ready to Pay Apple $38.4 Million in Damages
As I already told you, Samsung thinks Apple has exaggerated the worth of its patents. In the ongoing trial on Monday, Samsung's damage expert Judith Chevalier said the South Korean manufacturer should pay only $38.4 million for the five allegedly infringed patents, not $2.19 billion Apple is seeking.
Here's what
Samsung expert witness Judith Chevalier, an economics and finance professor at Yale University, said her calculations of reasonable royalty rates came out to 35 cents per patent per infringing device, reports CNET.
It should be noted, however, that Chevalier decided not to include the damages for lost profits into the final sum as Apple, according to her words, "has not lost sales as a result of Samsung's practice of the patents". This is how she got $38.4 million instead of $2.19 billion.
Apple hasn't yet commented on the issue, but I believe the company representatives will say something very soon.
