Sharp Will Be Ready to Ship OLED Panels for New iPhone in 2017

According to a statement made by a Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou, Sharp will start shipping OLED panels for the completely revamped iPhone in 2017. According to the executive, the panels will be ready in time for Apple to use them in the rumored handset.

Rumors suggest that the new iPhone will get a new OLED screen with embedded touch-sensitive Home button and Touch ID.

Gou did not confirm that Apple is a customer for the new panels but given the company's history as an iPhone assembler and supplier it's probable. Supplying OLED displays to Apple may have been motivation behind Gou's acquisition of a 66% stake in Sharp earlier this year for $3.5 billion.
