Equilibrio is a new game where you control a ball through various levels to reach the exit. It is a very funny game where we use physics to guide a ball using the accelerometer of the iPhone and iPod Touch. In the lower left is a kind of small map that shows the structure and level of play while we try to take the coins.

- 5 types of balls each with different properties and gameplay characteristics

Nearly one billion apps have been downloaded around the globe.

Apple celebrates this event: download an app and you’ll automatically get the chance to win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule, and a MacBook Pro. Just go to the iTunes Store, browse the App Store, and download your best app yet.

Apple has reportedly placed orders for 100 million 8Gb (8 gigabit, not gigabyte) NAND flash chips mostly with Samsung Electronics, which is likely to cause a supply shortage, according to sources at downstream suppliers. That's twice the size of the order reported last year. The tiny memory chips are then recombined during manufacturing into the larger 16GB, 32GB, and so on capacities we expect to find in our handheld consumer electronics. New iPhone this year! Any doubts?

Apple has just let developers know that they can start testing the upcoming Push Notification Service starting today:
Start testing your applications using the Apple Push Notification service today. Log in to the iPhone Dev Center and review the Apple Push Notification Programming Guide and Getting Started video. Team Agents can log in to the iPhone Developer Program Portal and proceed to the App ID section to create the components necessary to enable and test applications using the Apple Push Notification service.

The University of Stanford created an iPhone related course for iTunes U. The first lesson will help developers to create iPhone applications, almost from scratch.

The course is obviously in English, and videos are posted about 2 days after the actual recording. The quality is very good, and we can even download the slides in PDF. To get started, just click here. And... yes, it is free.

9to5Mac has found a string within iTunes with the following statement: "Disconnect your iPod, make sure the SIM card is inserted correctly [...]". Is this a joke, mistake or Apple will create an iPod 3 with a SIM card inside to connect to the Internet?

I bet this is a mistake. But who knows..

Over the weekend, hints of several additional features for the next-generation iPhone were revealed. Among them was the discovery that text strings in the iPhone OS 3.0 software reference a new Broadcom wireless chip, BCM4329, which supports 802.11n wireless connectivity. In digging through the specs for the chip, 9 to 5 Mac has discovered that it also supports both reception and transmission of FM radio signals. The finding, however, doesn't mean that Apple will necessarily enable these features in the new iPhone.

Apple updated iTunes to version 8.1.1. Official changelog is: "iTunes 8.1.1 adds support for renting HD movies and provides a number of bug fixes, including addressing issues with VoiceOver and syncing with iPhone or iPod touch.". Download it here.

In yesterday’s iPhone 3.0 Beta 2 firmware Apple has enabled 11 Home Screen pages for app storage, up from the previous 9. This raises the total number of apps available on the iPhone at once to 180 (up from 148).

1. Pick your country from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes Store homepage.

Lisa and Toyo demonstrate the Star Guitar iPhone app (AppStore link). You can play back synth guitar versions of popular songs by just tapping on chord buttons on your iPhone. What makes this video is the composition and the editing. It is amazing. Seriously, just watch it.

Recently we talked about Apple's second patent about biometric security. The funny thing is that the images used in this patent show a jailbroken firmware 1.x iPhone, with installed Installer.app, SMBPrefs  and the iWood Realize theme from the iSpazio repository. There are also "Terminal", "Game", "VRecord", "Blocks" and others.
