That was funny when people started jailbreaking iPhone's inside Apple Stores. The fun ended because stores started banning jailbreakme.com from their WiFi networks. Well, it looks like it didn't help.

Along with "Try Before You Buy" Apple added Genius section to the iPad App Store. Though there was no official announcement, according to MacRumors the section appeared as far back as last night.

"Genius" option can be found next to "Updates" section at the bottom of the store. If you click on it for the first time you'll need to agree to the terms of service and activate the feature.

Genius is designed to create lists of recommended apps that based on users' previous purchases. That makes it easier for users to uncover, download and buy more relevant applications.

Genius page also includes "iPad Upgrades" section that has iPad versions of apps that have been earlier developed for iPhone.

According to a new report, published by Philip Elmer-DeWitt from Fortune, Apple's share on the portable PC market grew from 5 to 12% in the second quarter, making it the third world biggest mobile PC vendor after Dell and HP in volume sales.

Such data was revealed by Chris Whitmore, who is an analyst Deutsche Bank.

"Our retail checks suggest this share shift continues in July, where the iPad is directly cannibalizing demand for other vendors' notebook products. Remarkably, Apple's traditional MacBook business posted accelerated unit growth on a Y/Y basis in 2Q despite the launch of the iPad while every other Top 5 vendor slowed."

Here's an interesting video from MuscleNerd, who jailbreaks an iPad using JailBreakMe in a plane (over New Mexico via "Gogo Inflight Internet" wifi). Nice!!

Starting today every owner of iPad, iPhone or iPod can easily jailbreak his device via browser on http://jailbreakme.com/

The site was created in a week after decision of the Library of Congress (that operates the Copyright Office), which states that jailbreaking isn't illegal, though Apple claims it actually represents a threat to the stability and security of the company's devices. Apple also says that jailbreaking voids the warranty, but such an action can be easily undone by resetting a device to the default factory settings.

Site JailbreakMe.com easily became a trending topic in Twitter after its announcement on RedmondPie.com. The jailbreak itself was created by hacker comex, and the website was done by chpwn and westbaer.

Invent the newest gadget and the porn industry will find a way to cash in. Associated Press reports:

When Apple Inc. launched the iPhone 4 and its FaceTime video conference feature, it didn't take long for adult-entertainment companies to develop video-sex chat services and start hiring workers through Craigslist.

We all remember how Steve Jobs talked about iPhone's and iPad's "freedom from porn" in email conversation. It looks like in real life FaceTime and new iPhone 4 will push forward porn industry.

Yesterday LG Display's Chief Executive Officer Kwon Young-Soo revealed that LG cannot currently produce enough iPad displays for Apple.

"Demand (from Apple) keeps growing and we can't meet it all."

It was also said that LG is going to increase the production of such displays but the demand will be met only presumably in the second quarter of 2011.

Even Apple didn't expect the iPad will be so popular, according to its Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook. Last financial quarter there were 3,27 million iPads sold. But that will not slow sales down - this Monday Apple announced that since Friday the iPad will be available for sale in nine more countries.

It is interesting that while LG cannot meet the iPad display demand it had already invested over $500 million in producing its own mobile phones and tablets.

Silicon Alley Insider created an interesting chart using yesterday's Apple revenue numbers. It visually shows how much money Apple makes and the progress for the last years. It shows that the iPad has a great impact on Apple's product matrix. In the June quarter the iPad business generated $2.2 billion of revenue for Apple.

Apple just released its third quarter earnings. Here is a quick summary:

• Revenue: $15.7 Billion (record)
• Profit: $3.25 billion ($3.51/share)
• Margin: 39.1% (vs 40.9% last year)

International sales accounted for 52% of revenue

Sales:

• Macs: 3.47 million
• iPods: 9.41 million
• iPhones: 8.4 million
• iPads: 3.27 million

Yesterday popular UK band "Squeeze" played their song "Pulling Mussels From The Shell" on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The video is pretty interesting because one of the band members was using an iPad all along and even made a solo during a second minute.

The app he was using is MooCowMusic's Pianist Pro.

Well, it was known that Steve Jobs thought about iPad before the first iPhone was actually released, but who could think about 1999?

Today Advertising Age reported that Virgin plans to release its new magazine called "Maverick". It will be targeted on the international audience with covering such areas as travel, technology and entrepreneurism. But its main idea is that it will be fully digital, with no print version available anywhere. First of all the app for iPad will be developed, then the content will be brought to iPhone and Android. By making "Maverick" digital only Virgin hopes to substantially reduce costs.

Yesterday Silicon Alley Insider reported that Palm had a chance to be acquired by Apple, but eventually HP’s bid was higher. Referring to an anonymous source that was familiar with the negotiations, author Dan Frommer wrote:

"Apple was mostly interested in Palm's huge library of intellectual property and patents (450+ patents on file, another 400+ applications on file). And unlike some other bidders, Apple even seemed committed to funding Palm's operations, perhaps to challenge RIM's dominance in the keyboarded segment of the smartphone industry, our source says."

It is reported that Google also wanted to purchase Palm to spite Apple, but the company didn't know whether Apple was actually bidding for Palm, so no moves were made in that direction.

Eventually HP acquired Palm and now has plans to use its webOS in company's future tablet devices that will compete with Apple's iPad.

Following the release of the 4.0.1 firmware for iPhone and 3.2.1 for iPad Apple has released the SDK to go with it. Although the update seems like nothing, and is really is nothing, developers need to update in order to run their apps on new iOS 4.0.1 iPhone or 3.2.1 iPad.
