Fortune recently posted their annual ranking of the world's largest corporations, where Apple got 253th place (+84 comparing to last year). According to Fortune Apple got more than $32 billion of revenue and $4.8 billion of profit.
Apple has reportedly placed orders for 100 million 8Gb (8 gigabit, not gigabyte) NAND flash chips mostly with Samsung Electronics, which is likely to cause a supply shortage, according to sources at downstream suppliers. That's twice the size of the order reported last year. The tiny memory chips are then recombined during manufacturing into the larger 16GB, 32GB, and so on capacities we expect to find in our handheld consumer electronics. New iPhone this year! Any doubts?
GigaOM reports that an iPhone version of Skype may be released as soon as next week, possibly at the CTIA Wireless trade show in Las Vegas.
A few months ago, I asked Skype CEO Josh Silverman when was he going to launch the iPhone version of the P2P voice and IM service that has now been downloaded more than 405 million times. He smiled and said, "Stay tuned." And so we did.
A tipster, a very reliable one, tells me that Skype is almost ready to launch that iPhone version, perhaps as soon as next week. CTIA Wireless, a large mobile industry trade event, kicks off in Las Vegas next Wednesday, so perhaps the announcement will be made there. I am working on getting more details, as well as screenshots of the service.
For now we can use Fring, which is free and works just fine.
Here are some new rumors about future iPhone from AT&T staff:
New iPhone announcement around mid-June
New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device (could be just talking about 3.0, but we think it’s also a new iPhone)
U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going… uh, k?
They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone. Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.
iPhone 3.0 OS is jailbreakable on all devices. It’s just those using 3G yellowsn0w that have to show some restraint and wait for PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW that avoids the baseband update. If you are using yellowsn0w, do not update or restore to iPhone 3.0 firmware. You will lose yellowsn0w and find yourself unable to revert the baseband to get it back.
DevTeam has announced that iPod Touch 2G is finally jailbreaked.
The raw patch to the firmware that transforms the “tethered” jailbreak into an untethered one was released here but it’s not yet packaged up into the PwnageTool or QuickPwn flows. But other threads there are pulling together tutorials and other tips for those of you anxious to try this out now. For the curious, the hole itself is explained here.
CBS has released TV.com - a new free iPhone application providing access to streaming content from the CBS family of networks.
While full episode content is currently limited to older series such as "Beverly Hills 90210", "MacGuyver", and "Star Trek: The Original Series", more limited clips are available from a variety of CBS-owned 'channels', including CBS Entertainment, The CW, Showtime, CNET TV, CBS Sports, GameSpot, CBS News, ET (Entertainment Tonight), CBS Radio, The Insider, and Chow.
New iPhone voice recorder travels back in time. A new iPhone app enables users to record speech after it's already been said.
That sounds impossible, but Epiphany is programmed quite cleverly. The moment you launch the app, it's already recording. But it doesn't store the recording until you tap the "Remember that!" button. In the app's settings, you can set how far back you want to record clips (e.g., 30 seconds or 2 minutes).
This will be extremely useful in a number of ways. For example, imagine you're a journalist and you're interviewing a person who rambles a ton but says something interesting once every 10 minutes or so.
Yes, DevTeam released new version of their software. First of all, please, do NOT use unofficial software from unknows sites (f.e. quickpwm.com). We recommend to download from torrent or official mirors.
We regulary publish latets software and firmware links. Use them or the same ones from DevTeam site.
iPhone 3G + NO UNLOCK: If you do not need unlock, you are using your iPhone with one carrier or you hae factory unlcoked iPhone, just restore or upgrade to 2.2.1 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.
iPhone 3G + UNLOCK: you need to preserve current baseband software. Preserving the baseband will ensure that you can still use “yellowsn0w” the iPhone 3G unlock application. To upgrade your phone to 2.2.1 and preserve the state of the baseband you need to create a custom .ipsw with PwnageTool. This custom .ipsw will not contain the baseband update but of course will still allow all the cool new stuff from 2.2.1. PwnageTool is only available for Mac OS X.
DevTeam updated yellowsn0w to version 0.9.7 to work with modified (!!!) firmware 2.2.1, in which you preserve old baseband from firmware 2.2.

The new tools are out, thanks to DevTeam. Here are couple notes:
If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
Preserving the baseband will give you the maximum chance for any upcoming software unlock. To upgrade your phone to 2.2 and preserve the state of the baseband you need to create a custom .ipsw with PwnageTool. This custom .ipsw will not contain the baseband update but of course will still allow all the cool new stuff from 2.2.
The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode. While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned. If in any doubt use a different machine.

DevTeam says that 2.2 update SHOULD NOT be applied using iTunes if you want the chance of a soft-unlock in the near future. Use new version of PwnageTool (not avaliable yet, but will be soon).
Some fact:
The 2.2 firmware for 3G contains a baseband update for the 3G iPhone
The 2.2 firmware for 2G (1st gen iPhones) doesn’t contain a baseband update and the baseband is still at 04.05.04
Pwnage technique (and therefore the Jailbreak) isn’t affected, but PwnageTool and QuickPwn do not support this release as yet, so DO NOT install 2.2 using iTunes as you will lose your jailbreak
