Apple Is Looking To Open R&D Center In Haifa, Israel

Following Apple’s acquisition of Israeli flash memory company Anobit, an Israeli business newspaper Calcalist reports that Apple wants to open a research center near Haifa city by the end of February. Reportedly the facility is located at the south of the Haifa city, in the neighborhood of Microsoft, Philips and Intel, who also have research centers there.

The company is said to have received hundreds of resumes for different engineering positons. Specifically, the company is seeking hardware engineers in the field of chip development. The publication also notes that Apple’s new Israeli R&D center is not related to its purchase of Anobit and Anobit employees will not participate in the work of the Haifa research center.

In December Calcalist reported that Apple send Vice President of R&D Ed Frank to investigate possibilities of an Apple-owned R&D center in Israel. Apple joins other Silicon Valley companies that operate research centers in Israel, such as chipmakers Qualcomm, Broadcom and Intel, Internet giants Yahoo!, eBay and Google, software makers Microsoft and IBM.

During the yesterday’s earnings call Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Bob Mansfield, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering is now the head of the Anobit team and that Apple is now integrating Anobit’s talent into company’s workflow.
