Another Apple 1 Computer Will Be Put Up For Auction in October

In June BBC reported that one of a few still functioning Apple 1 computers was sold at auction for about $375,000. The report also noted that only around 50 Apple’s are still in existence.

Today The Daily Mail reported that another Apple 1 computer will be auctioned off in October, and given that it is non-functional the device has been estimated to be sold for about $125,000. The report said:

“The iconic original is on offer at a Christie’s auction in central London on October 9 and comes from the estate of Joe Copson, a former Apple employee.

The rare opportunity to buy an original is expected to attract worldwide interest from museums and private technology collectors”.

Rare computers such as the Apple 1 are put for auction infrequently, but there has been a small increase in listings as owners of such machines have seen passing of Steve Jobs last year and Apple’s rise in popularity as good reason for selling.
