A new report from DigiTimes claims that Apple is in discussions with two Taiwan-based integrated circuit design firms, Integrated Memory Logic (iML) and Capella Microsystems, for sourcing of components for the company's iOS devices. Capella is said to have already delivered new ambient light sensors to Apple for testing and verification. The ambient light sensor is used in mobile devices, in conjunction with software, to determine the automatic screen brightness and optimal settings depending on external light conditions. Apple intends to implement these sensors in the next-generation iPhone, set to be announced in September.

Only couple days ago Apple released new iMacs with Sandy Bridge possessors and Thunderbolt technology. iFixit’s team, of course, immediately started tearing down a 21.5-inch model.  They  found that this model iMac opens in the same way as previous generations by pulling off the magnetically-held glass and removing the screws holding the LCD in place.

Many sources claim that Apple plans to incorporate 3D technology into the next-generation iPad.

The fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead cert, one Hollywood insider close to the big movie studios told RCR, adding that the screen would be the real magic. She went on to say that the big film studios were currently running around like blue arsed flies trying to gear up to release plenty of 3D content in time for Apple’s next launch.

Yesterday, on May 3 Apple has unveiled its new iMac desktops, which are up to 70% faster that its previous generation. Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing was traditionally excited to present new devices:

"Our customers love the iMac’s aluminum enclosure, gorgeous display and all-in-one design. With next generation quad-core processors, powerful new graphics, Thunderbolt technology and a FaceTime HD camera, we've made the world’s best desktop even better."

According to AppleInsider, Apple may introduce next-generation iMacs with the newest Intel processors as soon as on Tuesday, May 3.

People familiar with the matter told the devices will sport the first-gen Intel Core i processors, new high-speed Thunderbolt port and second-generation Core i chips.

Nikkan, Japanese newspaper, reports that Apple and Sharp may have entered into agreement on manufacturing displays for the sixth-generation iPhone. Rumors are based on the fact that Sharp has already begun preparation for the start of manufacturing in Spring next year at its plant in Japan for an iPhone display using next-generation technologies.

M.I.C. Gadget posts two images of the co-called “iPhone 4S” - an iPhone they’re pretty sure isn’t an iPhone 4, but possibly an updated model that includes a 3.7″ display, and the same proximity sensor as the white iPhone 4. The new display is nearly edge-to-edge. The photos show us the new screen to be slightly taller and slightly wider. If the image is legitimate, it appears to be closer to 3.7 inches than 4 inches. M.I.C. Gadget also speculates that it may have an A5 processor (a prototype model) that game developers are using to build games. Strings in iOS 4.3 revealed that the iPhone was slated to receive the updated processor, and recently a white iPhone was rumored being tested on T-Mobile’s network packing an A5 processor.

The latest build of Lion includes some icons which are sized at 1024x1024. That's twice the current 512x512 size of icons in Snow Leopard. Additionally, on April 2nd, Mac blog OSXDaily found some of the default wallpaper resolutions in Lion to be as large as 3200×2000 pixels (see the shot below). A few observers noted that this is higher than any Apple display has ever supported, generating speculation that Apple is preparing for "Retina" display Macs in the near future.

Taking cues from iOS, Apple has reportedly built in support for what it calls "HiDPI display modes". These HiDPI modes allow developers to supply 2x-enlarged images to support double-high resolution displays. Like the iPhone 4's Retina Display, this means that user interface elements will remain the same size, but everything will be twice the resolution and therefore twice as detailed.

Alasdair Allan and Pete Warden, security researchers, discovered a file in Apple’s iOS local backup system that keeps track of your location history, in format readable by a computer, and the researchers claim it’s present both on iPhones and iPad 3G units. Such file is kept unencrypted in the iOS database that can be backed up to a computer using iTunes. The researchers have also created an app called iPhoneTracker that recognizes the file from your local iOS backup, and displays your most-visited locations on a map (see the screenshot above). The app is also allows you to encrypt this file.

Yesterday DigiTimes published a report where it is said that an earthquake and tsunami in Japan had seriously affected the country's supply chain.

Because of the disaster Apple was only forced to order iPad 2 connectors at Taiwan's Cvilux.  Its previous partner in Japan, namely Hirose Electric, became unable to meet demand for Apple because of a power brownout policy in the country. Now Cvilux's business is expected to become more profitable.

This Monday Apple accused Samsung of copying the design of the iPad and iPhone for its own Galaxy-branded tablet and smartphone products. Next day Samsung filed a counter-suit against Apple.

Today Bloomberg reported Chimei Innolux Corp. will become a third supplier of displays and touch panel sensors for Apple's iPad 2. Current makers Wintek Corp. and TPK Holding Corp. will remain "key suppliers" of touchscreens, though they cannot satisfy the demand for a new device without another manufacturer.

According to Reuters, Foxconn is considering investing up to $12 billion in manufacturing facilities to start producing monitors and displays for mobile devices, such as iPhone and iPad, in Brazil. At that moment, the Brazilian government is studying Foxconn's investment plan. Brazilian minister of Science and Technology Mercadante has been negotiating with Foxconn for more than three months to convince the company to invest $12 billion throughout the next 5 years. Не also reported that Foxconn is preparing to begin manufacturing the iPad in Brazil by the end of November. The project would involve the recruitment of 100,000 new employees (including 20,000 engineers) as Foxconn already has three factories in Brazil to assemble products for Sony, Dell, and HP.

Apple has continued exploring the idea of smart bezel having filed a new patent related to use of a bezel as a secondary display built around a printed segmented electroluminescence technology (e-link technology). An electronic device could include a primary display (for example, LCD screen) and a secondary display (printed segmented electroluminescence display). The primary display could be used to convey visual content to a user, and the secondary display could be used to guide a user providing inputs to the device.

Apple intends to use the secondary display to introduce a set of new illuminated indicators that are able morph into various controls for work and play. Illuminated gaming and productivity controls could be built into the face-side of the bezel and/or selected back-side areas of iOS devices like the iPad.
