The Mac version SimCity will arrive on June 11th
EA announced that a new game SimCity will be available for the Mac from June 11. Players will be able to purchase a Mac version of SimCity via digital download from the Origin, digital Steam-like store of EA that launched this year, as well as other digital providers. The owners of the PC version of SimCity will receive a free version for Mac and vice versa.
EA said that it's not just a Mac "equivalent" of Windows version, the native version of the game designed specifically for the Mac. Software rendering has been rewritten for OpenGL, but the Mac version will use the same servers as the edition for the PC so gamers can play together no matter what platform they use.
"SimCity is coming to Mac on June 11 and one purchase will give you both the Mac and PC versions. You only need to buy SimCity once to play together across the same servers, regardless of which version you’re playing," said Lucy Bradshaw, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA’s Maxis Label. "We didn’t want to make any compromises when it came to the Mac so we created a native version that is optimized for the hardware and OSX."
At the time of launch of SimCity, its servers were overwhelmed by traffic, and the gaming experience was extremely low. Today EA seems to have eliminated the errors, and users play the game as they need. The company recently brought back "Cheetah" speed mode back on after disabling it to reduce the load on the servers after the initial launch of SimCity.
Originally, EA announced that SimCity would be available on a Mac in February this year, but the delivery date was postponed.
