Android Approaches iOS In Overall Smartphone Subscribers

Today comScore released its monthly smartphone mobile report, which shows again that the Android OS gains more and more points at the smartphone market, while RIM's BlackBerry and Apple's iOS continue to lose its positions. The report is based on the smartphone usage over a period between July and October of 2010, and shows that there 60.7 million people with smartphones in the USA, which is 14% more than three months before. According to comScore, every fourth mobile subscriber uses smartphone.
Other facts:
- RIM is the leading smartphone platform in the country with 35.8% share of overall smartphone subscribers (decreased by 3.5% in comparison to the last period);
- Apple follows RIM with 24.6% share;
- Google's Android OS now has 23.5% share of smartphone subscribers, which makes it the top rising platform (increased by 6.5% in comparison to the last period);
- Microsoft has 9.7% share, and Palm accounts for 3.9%.

- 68.1% of all mobile phone owners use text messaging, 36.2% use browsers, 33.7% download applications. Those who listen to music and play games represent 15.4% of subscribers.
As you understand, this data is not based on sales numbers, but on the actual use of smartphones, which makes it possible to suggest that Android continues to gain popularity in different directions, such as consumer interest, sales and others.
