Apple Watch to Take 40% of High-End Smartwatch Market Share by 2020

According to the latest report from Business Insider, by 2020, the Apple Watch may occupy about 40% of the luxury smartwatch market. In other words, in four years, nearly the half of wearable devices sold across the globe and costing more than $350 may be Apple Watch units. The information comes from a reliable source, so I think we can rely on the figures we have just seen.

As noted in the report, 27% of current smartwatch users show interest in the Apple Watch due to its features and design. Moreover, we can’t but mention the owners of simple wearables like fitness bands, who by and large choose more functional devices with time.

The report says that fitness bands have seen their share of the wearables market fall from 53% in 2014 to an estimated 48% this year, with a further slide to 42% predicted by 2020. Among those planning to buy a smartwatch, three times as many favor an Apple Watch over an Android-based competitor.

Of course, today we deal only with the report and estimated figures. However, if Apple continues to innovate and improve its smartwatch, by 2020 the number of potential and actual Apple Watch users may grow dramatically not only in the USA and Europe, but also in developing countries.
