Apple's Patent for Another Invention

According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Apple has filed another patent. Or, to be more precise, it has already got the patent for its would-be invention. This time it’s a new technology that is said to make you phone battery life much longer.

AppleInsider claims that Apple has patented “a mobile device control system that powers down components of the device based on context, to save battery power”. It might become one of the most useful technologies on market since the battery life is a weak point of any mobile gadget produced now.

Here’s how all that stuff is expected to work:

To help reduce power consumption, Apple proposes a system that can compare the estimated time period a user will spend on their device with battery reserves, determining whether the device has sufficient power to last for said period. If the battery does not have sufficient power, the system will adjust “one or more characteristics” to conserve energy.

The application for the patent was first filed in 2012 with Michael I. Ingrassia, Jr. and Jeffery T. Lee listed as the authors of the invention called “Power management for electronic devices”. One of the inventors - Ingarssia - is now working for Apple. He’s a senior software engineer.

It would be nice to have a smartphone with at least 48 hours of battery life. Agree?
