How To Start Using Passbook On iOS 6

Earlier this month at Worldwide Developers Conference, Scott Forstall, Apple’s Vice President of iOS, unveiled a new “Passbook” app that allows users to track different types of stubs, including movie tickets, coupons, loyalty cards and boarding passes.

Passbook app is included in the iOS 6 beta currently available to developers, but it is missing virtual passes to put inside. Currently it is just a sitting page without functionality. But Passbook will likely swing into full action as the company adds more functionality heading this fall. Those of you who want to start using this app, can do this in iOS 6 with a few simple steps.

According to Redmond Pie, a new website “PassSource” currently in alpha allows you to make Passbook passes free of charge. On the webpage, you can create coupons, store cards, events, boarding passes, and more. It is very easy:

  • Open the PassSource.com site on your device with iOS 6 and choose which type of pass you want to create.
  • Add the correct information to the pass, like the member name or card number.
  • Press create
  • Then it will open in the Passbook app.

We reported that prototypes of the next-generation iPhone use an NFC chip that could make Passbook an alternative for Google Wallet if it gets a payment processor such as PayPass system for processing credit card transactions.
