iPhone 8 to Get Optical Fingerprint Scanner and Other Improvements
According to the latest report from Digitimes, the iPhone 8 will get an optical fingerprint scanner integrated into the display. Moreover, the flagship device will be equipped with infrared image sensors for AR features and better camera performance. The display ratio will be changed from 16:9 to 18.5:9, sources add.
The information comes from the Chinese newspaper Economic Daily News that cites Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The reporters claim that the new optical fingerprint scanner will allow Apple to ditch the Home button from the front panel of the OLED iPhone 8. This goes in line with previous rumors about the handset.
Apple will use an optical fingerprint sensor to enable authentication directly on the screen, said the report. Additionally, the new iPhone devices will also come with invisible infrared image sensors to enhance the functionality of high-pixel camera and to enable AR applications.
Neither Apple, nor other reliable sources have confirmed the specs for the upcoming iPhone. That is why we should take all reports and predictions with a few pinches of salt.
