Microsoft Plans To Launch Gaming-Focused 7-inch 'Xbox Surface' Tablet

Today The Verge reported that Microsoft is planning to launch its 7-inch tablet called "Xbox Surface". Rather than being a smaller variant of its just-released 10-inch Surface, the forthcoming tablet will be focused on gaming and will run a scaled down Windows.

Alleged tech specifications for the tablet leaked in June, and now The Verge says that the leak is accurate, though Microsoft have continued to change its plans. The report notes:

“The Xbox Surface will likely include a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM designed specifically for gaming tasks. We're told these specifications could be altered to accommodate an unannounced Intel SoC and that the Xbox Surface is being developed independent of specific hardware architecture”.

The company is said to be working on the Xbox Surface project in strict secrecy, locking down a few buildings on its campus, where the company is apparently developing software and games for the tablet. Reportedly Microsoft is also planning to produce the device at the same facilities used for the larger Surface tablet instead of using traditional contract manufacturing companies like Foxconn or Pegatron.
