Nokia Launched Free Mapping Service Called HERE Maps

As promised, last night Nokia launched an alternative to Apple’s Maps service for iOS – a cross-platform app called "HERE Maps". Here is based on HTML 5 and now it is available on the iTunes Store for iPad, iPod touch and iPhone. The service offers users different map views, Facebook login integration, ability to work in offline mode and features allowing users to share their location information.

Offline Maps functionality allows working with only one map area, as users can download only up to 10MB of mapping data for using in offline mode. HERE offers:

• Map views – Pick the map you need from map view, live traffic view, public transport line view or satellite view
• Save map areas & wander without data coverage
• Maps, search and place coverage for nearly 200 countries
• Share places with just a tap, including the location and how to get there, over SMS, email, or social networks
• Step-by-Step voice-guided walk navigation
• Walk navigation through pedestrian routes, parks, alleyways, and more
• Public transportation and driving directions
