The company from Cupertino has recently released iOS 7 beta 3. If you’re planning to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad running the latest beta using the official evasi0n7 tool, well, I should disappoint you - it won’t work. However, there’s another way out.
As you probably know, not long ago evad3rs released their untethered jailbreak for iOS 7. Right after the release, many iPad 2 owners began to complain that their tablets won’t boot properly. Good news - the hackers came up with a fix for the problem; it is called Evasi0n 1.0.2 and it’s a beta that is said to be very helpful for all those who have problems with second-gen iPads (Wi-Fi models in particular).
It’s Sunday now, the week nearly came to an end, so I guess it’s time to take a brief look at the most popular stories of the past seven days.
There were many events, but I don’t think it would be very smart of me to retell all of them in this short post. Instead of doing this, I’ve picked 10 most popular stories in case you haven’t yet read them and put these bits together for you to take a look. Enjoy!
Evad3rs have recently released an updated version of their untether in Cydia that contains a bunch of improvements. The most important is probably a tweak that saurik requires to fix the problem with MobileSubstrate and make it fully functional.
The evad3rs team released evasi0n7 1.0.1 with the removal of TaiG App Store from the installer. No word on any other changes in the 1.0.1 version of evasi0n7. You can download the new version here.
Pod2g announced the news on twitter:
We have heard the community. Evasi0n 1.0.1 is available on http://evasi0n.com. TaiG has been removed from the package. Merry Christmas!
A Chinese company reportedly paid evad3rs $1 million to install its third-party mobile application - Taig store. This app replaced Cydia on devices with default language set to Chinese. As to the hackers, they confirmed that they had received a kind of compensation from Taig. Take a look at the open letter posted on evad3rs' official website:
H8sn0w has announced the release of an untether package for the old devices running iOS 6.1.3 - 6.1.5. This includes iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch 4G.
With the unexpected release of the evasi0n7 jailbreak, we are finally able to release the 3GS/A4 6.1.3 + 6.1.5 untether Cydia package.
Good news for all those who have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 7 - all of a sudden, evad3rs released an untethered jailbreak for the seventh version of Apple’s mobile operating system. Evasion 7 jailbreak utility was released December 22nd. A kind of a Christmas present from hackers, huh?
Stefan Esser aka i0n1c, a security researcher and a person behind the untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.2, says someone close to evad3rs may have stolen a jailbreak exploit and sold it to an unknown private buyer.
Famous hacker Planetbeing, member of Evad3rs team, posted an update regarding team's iOS 7 jailbreak progress. They've achieved one important step - unsigned userland code execution. Basically this means that they've got behind Apple's walls of security and now can poke at the kernel. Bugs found in the kernel could be used to create a jailbreak for the new operating system.
Achieved unsigned userland code execution with some of our stuff in reserve. Now we have a good platform for poking the kernel.
Great news. Evad3rs actually started iOS 7 jailbreak works.
Since Apple released iOS 7 Gold Master it is time for jailbreak developers to take a deep look at this new version, it is too late for Apple to make any changes to the iOS security.
The evad3rs, a group of hackers who released the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6, have announced that they are now actively investigating iOS 7 to identify which of their exploits still work.
iOS 7 has been jailbroken. Popular iOS developer Ryan Petrich has posted a screenshot which appears to show Activator running on iOS 7.
Earlier today Petrich tweeted saying, "System version too new?". Alongside the tweet was the picture below. The picture shows the Springboard of an iPod touch with an Activator icon and a UIAlert window which reads:
System Version Too New
Activator has not been tested to work with this version of iOS. Some features may not work as designed.
Notably, this alert does not seem to be a UIAlert that could be generated from within a sandboxed application, suggesting that device may be jailbroken.
P0sixninja says that he has found the exploits necessary to release a new jailbreak. He does not mention it, but it looks like this jailbreak will be for the latest iOS 6.1.3. In the past the hacker contributed to various jailbreak releases in the past including: GreenPois0n, Cdev Reporter, Absinthe, etc.
Well, so far it looks like the next jailbreak might be created entirely by me.
Apple has acknowledged the evad3rs for discovery of four of the six security issues fixed in iOS 6.1.3, notes MuscleNerd.
