Teardown of new 1080p Apple TV finds cooler single-core A5 CPU
On Monday iFixit also get their hand on the recently released Apple TV. Having disassembled the device, the team found that this version of Apple’s set-top box does not have a thermal pad, suggesting it runs even cooler than its predecessor.
Even though it apparently runs cooler, the new CPU is more capable and allows users to output 1080p high-definition video content. The device still has the same power supply, though, providing 3.4V at 1.57A.
An earlier disassembly of the new Apple TV discovered that the updated set-top box features the same 8 gigabytes of storage as its predecessor. Monday's latest peek inside the Apple TV also found two antennae inside the device. The addition is presumed to boost signal strength in the latest Apple TV.

Meijer, a regional big-box retailer in the U.S., slashed the price of the 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi by $70, and Best Buy has begun offering $50 off every iPad 2 model. These facts could, however, suggest that Foxconn is already preparing to ship the device's third-generation successor to Apple in the United States.
The alleged secret shipments from Foxconn were revealed in a shipping manifest from Apple.pro revealed this weekend, which shows a series of shipments scheduled to begin delivery in the U.S. no later than March 9. The mystery orders arriving from Chengdu, China, are said to be under high security. A source from Foxconn's Chengdu plant reportedly indicated that the shipment is for "Apple's latest products."
iPhone 4S Component Costs Once Again Begin at About $188
We have already seen some teardowns and estimates of the cost of the new iPhone 4S by iFixit and Chipworks. Now iSuppli offers its teardown and some new facts.
In the case of the iPhone 4S, [IHS iSuppli analyst Andrew] Rassweiler estimates that the BOM cost ranges from $188 for the 16 gigabyte version of the iPhone 4S to $207 for the 32GB version and $245 for the 64GB version. Apple and its carrier partners sell the phones for $199, $299 and $399 respectively, typically with a two-year contract for wireless service that carriers use to subsidize the cost they pay Apple.
iSuppli didn’t find in the iPhone 4S a noise cancellation chip from Audience that was found in the iPhone 4. Such function may be implemented directly into A5 cheap that costs about $15. While iFixit found Toshiba flash memory in its iPhone 4S unit, IHS iSuppli expressed some surprise at finding Hynix memory in its unit. But as far as we know, Apple sources flash memory chips from different manufactures. They didn’t managed to find the manufacturer of the camera sensor, but estimated the cost of the camera module at $17.60.
AT&T Will Start Offering LTE Devices On August 21
This week AT&T has that the sales of the first LTE devices, AT&T USBConnect Momentum 4G and AT&T Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G, will start on August 21st. All customers will be able to utilize 5 gigabytes of data for $50 every month and after the limit will be exceeded 1 gigabyte of data will cost 10$. It is also known that AT&T USBConnect Adrenaline which is LTE-upgradeable will receive an update to LTE on August 26.
AT&T has also told about its plans to sell 4G LTE using five market places later this summer, which are situated in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. All customers with 4G LTE-consistent devices will have access to 4G LTE speeds as AT&T's 4G LTE service will be already available.

Today Verizon Switches To A Metered Schemes For Smartphone Data
After weeks of rumors going around the leading wireless provider is set to meter its smartphone data. That means that Verizon customers will become unable to take advantage of unlimited data plans on the company's network. The spokeswoman of Verizon Brenda Raney that the new pricing scheme will be effective as of this Thursday, July 7.

Walt Mossberg has reviewed new MacBook Airs
Famous technology journalist Walt Mossberg published another review where he analyzes new MacBook Air notebooks and describes them as "gorgeous, very thin and light, but very sturdy aluminum computers".
After using notebooks for some time he made a conclusion that the 11.6-inch system is very iPad-like, the battery life of the devices is "strong" and the systems wake up from sleep every time almost instantly. Though such machines won't fit as primary computers, especially for power users, they should fit fine for light-duty users. Walt revealed that even the $999 model can run 7-8 programs at the same time, even if there are iTunes, Safari Web browser with couple of dozens of apps opened and Microsoft Office among them.
Gigabyte fixes iPhone Syncing Issues
Many users are unable to sync their iPhones on PCs equipped with Windows 7 and Intel P55 Express chipset. Gigabyte is the first company who fixed this issue. They've released a beta BIOS that addresses the problem. Asus and MSI, which also use the P55 express on their motherboards, haven’t issued any updates yet, but hopefully will soon.
Apple orders 100 million 8Gb flash chips
Apple has reportedly placed orders for 100 million 8Gb (8 gigabit, not gigabyte) NAND flash chips mostly with Samsung Electronics, which is likely to cause a supply shortage, according to sources at downstream suppliers. That's twice the size of the order reported last year. The tiny memory chips are then recombined during manufacturing into the larger 16GB, 32GB, and so on capacities we expect to find in our handheld consumer electronics. New iPhone this year! Any doubts?
