Reportedly, Apple’s A6 processors will be produced on 28 nm process technology in TSMC, and will be shipped in the Q2 of 2012.

As DigiTimes reports, Shang-yi Chiang, TSMC’s VP of research and development, said that the company is preparing for mass producing of 28 nm chips:

"Chiang claimed that TSMC has received enough orders to fully utilize its 28nm production capacity. Its 28nm process technology will be available for mass production in early 2012, Chiang said".

Also he noted that next year the company will begin research on 14-nanometer process technology, and plans to start mass production of the chip in 2015.

He said that they will apply 18-inch wafers to process 14 nm chips which will allow the company to lower the production cost.

Samsung, that makes A4 and A5 processors for iPads, iPods and iPhones is also important component suppliers for Apple. But due to competitive and patent-related issues, Apple reportedly plans to gradually shift it orders to another component maker, and it seems that TSMC is the most likely candidate.
