iPhone 5 And 4S Topped The List Of Smartphone Shipments In 4Q 2012



In November, research company Strategy Analytics claimed that Samsung's Galaxy S III had become the best-selling smartphone worldwide in the third quarter of last year, taking advantage of iPhone 4S decreased sales ahead of the iPhone 5 launch.

The firm’s latest research published today shows that Apple easily retook the title for the fourth quarter of 2012 with the iPhone 5 shipments reaching 27.4 million units for 12,6 percent of the market.

Analyst Expects Unsubsidized iPhone Mini Will Cost From $250 to $300



Today analyst Brian White from Topeka Capital issued a note to clients (via Forbes) providing his expectations for much-rumored cheaper iPhone. According to White, Apple can release the low-cost iPhone as early as June and the device will be called “iPhone Air” or “iPhone mini”. He also expects that the contract-free model will cost from $250 to $300, which would allow the device to compete with high-end smartphones priced below $320 from China-based Xiaomi. He also noted:

Apple is on the way to launch a full-size version of the 128 Gb iPad



9to5Mac reports that four of the new configurations of the iPad appeared in the United States retailer's database. Although the exact information was not revealed in the database. The new devices was named as "ultimate" of current full-size model configuration. Unlocking Of Newly Purchased Mobile Phones Will Become Illegal In U.S.



According to Tech News Daily, a new federal law in the U.S. will go into effect on January 26 making it illegal for owners of mobile phones to unlock their devices for use on other carriers if this is not authorized by their carriers. The federal law applies to new devices purchased beginning on January 26, but not to legacy devices bought prior to that date.

A former Color employee Aubrey Johnson shares a story about Apple's acquisitions of Lala and Color, which both were founded by Bill Nguyen.

Lala's music was streamed over the Internet instead of stored locally. The service allowed users to listen to a collection of more than 7 million titles as a stream over the Internet – much like Spotify and Pandora today. Users could also buy and download songs usually for a lower price than Apple’s iTunes was offering.

Today, Amazon announced about optimization of the music store for Safari app on iOS devices. This move is the company's desire to dominate the digital music market.

Samsung Working to Keep Design Dispute Separate from Component Contracts

Several Samsung senior executives were reportedly holding an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss Samsung's next moves in the case. Samsung CEO Kwon Oh-hyun not present at that meeting trying to save the company’s component supply contracts with Apple.
