Jony Ive’s Design Overhaul Could Lead To Delays For iOS 7

Today Bloomberg reported that Jony Ive’s efforts to redesign iOS as part of his new software design role puts Apple at risk of delaying the release of iOS 7. While a public release is said to currently stay on schedule for "as soon as September", internal deadlines in the company has been pushed back as software teams race to finish iOS 7 and prepare a preview for Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

“Ive, 46, has begun revamping iPhone and iPad applications, shunning realistic images, such as wood bookshelves for the Newsstand feature, and he’s exploring more dramatic changes to the e-mail and calendar tools, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private”.

The report also backs up previous claims that engineers have been pulled from OS X projects to support iOS 7 effort.

According to the sources, Apple may have to push back some of Ive’s desired changes such as complete redesign of the iOS email app to a later iOS version in order to launch iOS 7 on time and that Ive has shown interest in gesture control technology that allows to control the device without touching its display.
