Apple Announces Countdown To 25 Billionth App

Apple has started a new feature on its website that promotes a countdown to its 25 billion app downloads. The promotional page reads:

“As of today, nearly 25 billion apps have been downloaded worldwide. Which is almost as amazing as the apps themselves. So we want to say thanks. Download the 25 billionth app, and you could win a US$10,000 App Store Gift Card. Just visit the App Store and download your best app yet”.

Users can participate in the promotion either by downloading/purchasing an app from the App Store or by submitting an entry form. The winner of the contest will be the person who either downloads the 25 billionth app or who submits the entry form right after the 24,999,999,999th download, whichever comes first.

In the past, Apple has launched similar promotions with almost identical one for ten billion downloads taking place a year ago and another promotion for ten billion downloads from iTunes Music Store in February 2010.
