AU Optronics solved iPad mini display production issues
According to the report submitted by Digitimes, AU Optronics has improved performance of displays for the iPad mini which finally leads to the availability of the current iPad mini and a reliable infrastructure for the production of displays for the next generation iPad mini.
"Due to AUO's yield issues throughout the second half of 2012, cumulative shipments of the iPad mini were less than Apple's originally estimated 10 million units. However, the sources said AUO has solidified higher yields as of the first quarter in 2013, which will help keep the iPad mini in supply as well as most likely push up AUO's tablet panel shipments on year in 2013."
The availability of the iPad mini has been limited since the release of the device in October 2012, after some models were sold out in just a few minutes after the beginning of pre-orders. The limiting factor of the supply was the production of displays which resulted in an increase in supply of up to two weeks.
It became known that Apple managed to achieve a balance of supply and demand for the iPad mini. Device status in several online Apple Stores is now listed as "in stock" that confirms the improvement in the production of displays.
DigiTimes also reported that AU Optronics started production of displays for the iPad mini of the second generation. Rumors have suggested that the next model of the iPad mini will be equipped with the Retina display. The report submitted in November revealed that AU Optronics was preparing for production. The Retina display is the next logical step for the iPad mini, although there are no information when the updated iPad mini will be released.
