High-End iPhone 6 Models Will Get Sapphire Displays - WSJ

According to the latest reports from the Wall Street Journal, only high-end models of iPhone 6 will get sapphire-covered displays. The screens for other devices will be made of material that is much stronger than Gorilla Glass, but isn’t actually sapphire, sources claim. It should be noted that the reporters’ suggestions haven’t yet been confirmed, which means that all of the handsets may get displays made of protective material other than sapphire.

Apple is considering using sapphire screens in more-expensive models of the two new, larger iPhones it plans to debut this fall, if it can get enough of the material, people familiar with the matter say. Some analysts expect Apple to charge more for the phones than previous new models, because of increased component costs.

The first batch of new screens is expected to be manufactured this month by the company called GT Advanced Technologies at its factory in Mesa, Arizona.

Apple will officially unveil its new iPhone on September 9th. There will be two versions of the gadget. One will get a 4.7-inch and the other one - a 5.5-inch display.
