Today Brian White, analyst from Topeka Capital Markets, released a new report based on information obtained from sources at CES currently held in Las Vegas. According to his note, Apple is preparing to release the next-generation versions of the iPad mini and full-sized iPad this March. He said:
Shanghai Evening News has posted an interview with marketing SVP Phil Schiller in which he addresses rumors of a low-cost iPhone.
According to The Next Web, Schiller admitted that Apple is not developing a cheaper iPhone to take a greater share of the market. Reportedly, he said that iPhone 5 is the best iPhone and Apple is not concerned with the unit share of the smartphone market. Schiller said in the interview:
One technology that has become common in iOS accessories, currently known as Bluetooth Smart. Low-power devices technology lets pursue long-term link between iOS devices and accessories. E-paper Pebble watch, which developed with support from Kickstarter generated enormous interest. Sales revenue by arrangement amounted to more than 10 million dollars.
Apple announced on Wednesday that it will reveal results for the first fiscal quarter of 2013 on January 23 at 2:00 p.m. Pacific/5:00 p.m. Eastern. In the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple saw a 25 percent boost in profits thanks to strong sales of 44 million iDevices, including 26.9 million iPhones, for the three month period. Revenue for fiscal 2012 reached over $156 billion on sales of more than 200 million iOS devices, 18 million Macs, and 35 million iPods.
According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple is exploring the possibility of using IGZO displays in the iPad, iPad mini and iPhone in 2013. The report notes:
“The sources said Apple is in further discussions with Sharp over IGZO panel production capacity estimates for 2013 and is also inquiring about whether AU Optronics' (AUO) L5C line could be used to produce the technology”.
The recently released update of IOS 6.0.2 for the iPhone 5 and IPad mini, could solve some of the issues associated with Wi-Fi, but some users say that the software reduced battery life.
Manufacturers of components for the second-generation iPad mini are preparing to introduce on the market sooner than expected. It is evidenced by one analyst, although the exact dates are uncertain, since Apple is planning to complete the global deployment of the first-generation model.According to research of Doug Freedman analyst from RBC Capital Markets, chip manufacturers are already preparing for the development of the second generation iPad mini, reports Brooke Crothers from CNET.
Digitimes reports that Apple will center next iPad mini’s improvements around the tablet’s display resolution. The report said:
“The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple’s Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series.”
According to DigiTimes, shipments of the iMac and iPad mini are expected to be limited in 2012 due to display production issues.
Reportedly, the panels for the iPad mini have seen low yield rates. As a result, Apple may fall short of 10 million target and reach only 6 million mark for the shipments of the iPad mini in the fourth quarter.
Apple has published set of print ads in several popular magazines. The ads show off the capabilities of the iPad mini’s Newsstand on the back covers of print magazines like Time and The New Yorker.
According to a research conducted by Nielsen in the United States, over the course of the next 6 months, consumers between the age of 6 to 12 years are interested in buying iOS products form Apple. New Nintendo Wii U took the second place on popularity, but rated behind the iPad. However, iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad Mini entered the top 5 most popular products for this age group.
At the annual ”MFi” conference, which was held in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, Apple notified manufacturers of accessories that they have to comply with the corporate ethics selling officially licensed products. According to TUAW, the certified devices such as "made for iPhone, iPad and iPod, will only be able from companies that adhere to corporate standards." Chpwn has posted an image showing Cydia running on a jailbroken iPad 4.
It doesn't look any different than on the iPad (3rd generation), but here's Cydia running on the iPad (4th generation): pic.twitter.com/zhrii6uX
Recently, MuscleNerd posted to show that the jailbreak discovered by chpwn was working for the iPad mini.
Last month, chpwn revealed that his jailbreak would be reserved as a failbreak. That means it will be limited to jailbreak developers and won't be released to the public. This is being done to make it easier to discover new exploits (which will be used for public release) in the future.
