Samsung Working to Keep Design Dispute Separate from Component Contracts

Several Samsung senior executives were reportedly holding an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss Samsung's next moves in the case. Samsung CEO Kwon Oh-hyun not present at that meeting trying to save the company’s component supply contracts with Apple. Kwon's primary responsibility is to oversee the company's component business, a division that maintains a close relationship with Apple.

Shipments Of iPad mini And New iMac Will Be Constrained Until 2013



According to DigiTimes, shipments of the iMac and iPad mini are expected to be limited in 2012 due to display production issues.

Reportedly, the panels for the iPad mini have seen low yield rates. As a result, Apple may fall short of 10 million target and reach only 6 million mark for the shipments of the iPad mini in the fourth quarter.

iOS Moved Android Into Second Spot In US Smartphone Market



By virtue of iPhone 5 sales, iOS reached the top spot on the smartphone market in the United States, according to research company Kantar Worldpanel Comtech. According to the report covering smartphone sales over the 12-week period ending October 28, iOS accounts for 48.1% of the smartphone market in the U.S (up 25% year-over-year) and has officially moved Android into second spot.

Apple had to acquire Lightning trademark from Motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson



In order to put the new Lightning technology on the market, Apple had to purchase the trademark “Lightning” from the motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson. Patently Apple reports that two Apple trademark applications published by EU Patent & Trademark Office show the transfer of the trademark officially occurred on Saturday.

Adults and children prefer iPad to other devices



According to a research conducted by Nielsen in the United States, over the course of the next 6 months, consumers between the age of 6 to 12 years are interested in buying iOS products form Apple. New Nintendo Wii U took the second place on popularity, but rated behind the iPad. However, iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad Mini entered the top 5 most popular products for this age group.

Nokia Launched Free Mapping Service Called HERE Maps



As promised, last night Nokia launched an alternative to Apple’s Maps service for iOS – a cross-platform app called "HERE Maps". Here is based on HTML 5 and now it is available on the iTunes Store for iPad, iPod touch and iPhone. The service offers users different map views, Facebook login integration, ability to work in offline mode and features allowing users to share their location information.

Arbitration court can resolve Apple-Motorola patent dispute.



The arbitral court was considering Apple and Google issues which were about the infringement of patents. Bloomberg reported on Friday that details of preliminary discussions were revealed during the court filing. The two companies exchanged proposals in which they proposed a mandatory arbitration trial to reach a licensing agreement.

Early Builds Of OS X 10.9 Include Maps And Siri Integration



According to 9to5mac, early builds of OS X 10.9, which are currently tested, show that Maps and Siri integration may come to Macs next year.

However, it is currently unknown if Siri will be part of OS X 10.9 for users. Apple already offers Mac users Text-to-Speech and Dictation functionality, but integration with Siri would presumably offer voice search and voice command services to Mac users.
