Apple Investigating New iPads with Wi-Fi Problems
According to an AppleCare document, Apple is investigating a number of WiFi-related issues in third-generation iPad. Since its launch, many users have complained about iPad 3 WiFi issues that range from upload speeds, slow download, connection drops, or even device’s inability to connect to local WiFi networks.
A thread about the issue on Apple’s online support forums has almost 700 replies from users affected by similar issues.
In addition to supposed iPad 3 overheating and charging issues, the device’s WiFi issues were reported by the media during the past two weeks. Apple has admitted internally that some iPad 3 models have the WiFi issues described in forum threads and numerous reports.
The company said:
Symptoms can include, but are not limited to:
- Intermittent connectivity
- Slow Wi-Fi speeds
- Wi-Fi network not seen.
According to Apple, the issue is limited to Wi-Fi-only iPad 3s. New iPads affected by WiFi issues should be “Captured.” As one source noted, “Captured” means that a device should be packed up and shipped to the company's engineering centers for investigation. Apple employees will Capture iPad and included accessories (USB cord and charging adapter) and the company will replace affected devices.
