iPad 2 Smart Cover Teardown Reveals 21 Magnets

Well-know teardown firm iFixit has recently teardown the Apple’s Smart Cover case for the new iPad 2. The highly publicized case consists of plenty magnets that keep it aligned on the surface of the iPad and turn off and on the device.
There are a total of THIRTY ONE magnets within the iPad 2 and Smart Cover: 10 magnets in the iPad 2, and a whopping 21 magnets inside the Smart Cover. They're the reason why the cover works so well with the iPad 2.
Apple Taking Donations to Help Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Victims
Apple is taking donations in order to help Japan earthquake and tsunami victims. The company created an option in the iTunes Store that allows everybody to make donation to the American Red Cross for the Japanese victims. To make donation, visit this page and choose to donate $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or $200. Everything happens through the iTunes account you already have.
Your gift to the American Red Cross will support our disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami through the Pacific. Your support will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to victims of all disasters.
iPad 2 Teardown

iFixit, as usual, prefers not to waste time and has already teardown newly released iPad 2 16 GB Wi-Fi model. The iPad 2 wasn’t easy to open because of tons of glue (not screws) used to seal it. The iPad 2 is very densely packed and has less empty space inside the body comparing with the original iPad. Here are the initials found inside:
Apple could sell 600,000 iPad 2s during debut weekend
Multiply analysts expect that Apple could sell 600, 000 iPad 2 during this launch weekend. On launch day of the first-gen iPad, on April 3, 2010, the company sold 300,000 units of WiFi-only original iPad. iPad 2 is expected to outpace the original model. Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies, believes that sales of the iPad 2 could reach 500,000 this weekend. Analysts from Romand & Renshaw and Piper Jaffray & Co. also expect the iPad 2 to outsell its predecessor. The two leading reasons for more iPad 2 sales have to do with more stores selling the device on opening day and the addition of the white model. Moreover, early reviews of the iPad 2 have praised Apple for improvements made to the device.
iOS 4.3 Requires Password Reentry for In App Purchases

Apple’s new iOS 4.3 includes change that requires reentry of your iTunes Store password to make in-app purchases, even if the user had just entered the password to download the application. That change was made to address concerns over incidents when children managed to pay lots of money for games and prevent children without knowledge of the device's iTunes Store password from accessing in app purchase content.
Parents had complained to the The Post that in the 15-minute period after an app was downloaded, children were buying sometimes hundreds of dollars of purchases on games such as Smurfs’ Village and Tap Zoo — popular iTunes games that are also among the highest-grossing programs for in-app purchases.
iPhone 5 Design Images with Larger Edge-to-Edge Screen

iDealsChina reports that managed to get engineering diagrams of the new iPhone 5, showing a larger display and a thinner bezel.
We just got what appears to be mold engineering drawings for iPhone 5. These would be used by case designers to create plastic, TPU, aluminum, silicone and leather cases. A while back we hear rumors that iPhone 5 would have a curved back but these images show iPhone 5 with the same form factor as iPhone 4 but with an edge to edge screen.

Forbes released its annual list of the world’s billionaires this week. Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs was ranked at number 110 with a net worth $8.3 billion. Jobs' net worth also ranks 34th among billionaires in the United States. Last year he was placed at 136th place with $5.5 billion.

Safari 5.0.4 pwned at hacking contest in five seconds
As far as we know, the Apple’s browser Safari was always the subject of intense criticism for its various security weaknesses. A couple of days ago Safari got pwned again at the hacking challenge pwn2own. It took the French team consists of specialists of security firm Vupen just a few seconds to exploit an unpatched Safari vulnerability. “We pwned Apple Safari on Mac OS X (x64) at pwn2own in 5 seconds,” they tweeted. Just a few minutes before the contest, Apple released Safari 5.0.4 alongside iOS 4.3. Vupen said that the update 62 vulnerabilities, breaking “some exploits but not all.” The winners were awarded $15,000 and a MacBook Air. In addition to Safari, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 was also hacked pretty quickly.

Alongside release of the iOS 4.3, Apple announced update of the company’s Internet browser Safari 5.0.4 that contains lots of improvements:
- Improved stability for webpages with multiple instances of plug-in content;
- Improved compatibility with webpages with image reflections and transition effects;
- A fix for an issue that could cause some webpages to print with incorrect layouts;
- A fix for an issue that could cause content to display incorrectly on webpages with plug-ins;
- A fix for an issue that could cause a Screen Saver to appear while video is playing in Safari;
- Improved compatibility with VoiceOver on webpages with text input areas and lists with selectable items;
- Improved stability when using VoiceOver.
Apple kills fall iPad 3 rumors by calling 2011 "Year of iPad 2"
During the iPad 2 media event Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs said that 2011 is the year of iPad 2, so he killed any speculations claiming that the iPad 3 could be introduced this fall. Moreover, Jobs denied rumors that Apple was working on the third tablet.
Remind you that John Gruber was the first who wrote: “I think the iPad fits most naturally into the same schedule as the iPods: where new hardware is announced and ships in September. Apple releases iOS 4.3 Golden Master to developers
Apple released the golden master version of iOS 4.3 to developers. The public release of the operating system is set to come out on the 11th March together with the release of the iPad 2. The update is available in versions for the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, the iPad 2 will ship with iOS 4.3 installed. Typically a gold master issued to developers is identical to the version that eventually becomes the final release.

Apple Releases iTunes 10.2 With Support for iOS 4.3
Alongside the new iPad 2 Apple yesterday released iTunes 10.2 that officially introduces support for iOS 4.3, even despite the fact that iOS 4.3 doesn't launch publicly until March 11th. The update also brings an improved home sharing feature to share libraries with iOS devices running iOS 4.3.

iOS 4.3 to Launch on March 11th
During yesterday’s iPad 2 media event Apple announced that the new iOS 4.3 is to be released on March 11th.
"With more than 160 million iOS devices worldwide, including over 100 million iPhones, the growth of the iOS platform has been unprecedented," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO.
