Some of 21 and 27-inch iMac models began to be realized through Apple's retail partners
Several retail partners of Apple products ensure the availability of some models of iMac, which were launched more than three months ago.
As of Sunday, Amazon and MacConnection have limited availability of 27-inch iMac (2.9 Ghz, 8 GB, 1TB hard drive), which they offer for $1799 and $1779, respectively. Amazon reports that 27-inch iMac 3.2 Ghz will be in stock on Friday, some models are already available on Best Buy and B&H Photo offers a 27-inch model (3.4 Ghz, 8 GB, 1TB hard drive) for $ 2199.
So far none of the retailers have in stock both standard 21-inch iMac configurations. MacMall is offering 21-inch iMac 2.9 Ghz, 8 GB of memory, 1TB Fusion drive for $1744, and the 16 GB model for $1944 (the same price in B&H -$1949).
Apple's Chief Executive Tim Cook reported during a quartery conference with analysts that he did not expect that the company would be able to produce enough of the new products to meet consumer demand during the first quarter.
In the most recently completed quarter, Apple's Mac sales declined by 17% to 4.1 million units. That's about a million less than analysts had expected. Tim Cook explains the strict limitation of the iMac line, because Apple is not able to supply approximately 700000 new desktop computers during the quarter. The company needs the direct and indirect sales channels to release.
Performance-related issues are likely to arise because the lamination process screen for new computers is difficult, especially for a 27-inch model.
