John Coyne, who is a CEO at Western Digital, revealed yesterday that tablet devices like Apple's iPad are negatively affecting on the hard drive business. Talking in numbers, iPad may reduce shipments of low-end netbooks and laptops on 10-20 percent over the next few quarters. But Coyne tried to reassure investors the business will be still profitable:

"What I would say to investors is to look at the long-term demand for storage, the fact is the most appropriate solution for mass volume storage is hard drives and to look at the long-term progress the industry has made over the last 10 years".

The Complete Transcript of Steve Jobs' Apple Q4 Earnings Call

Here's the Apple CEO in his own words talking during Apple Q4 Earnings Call:

Hi, everybody. As most of you know, I don’t usually participate in Apple earnings calls, since you’re all in such capable hands with Peter and Tim. But I just couldn’t help dropping by for our first 20-billion-dollar quarter. I’d like to chat about a few things, and then stay for the rest of the Q&A, if that’s all right.

First, let me discuss iPhone. We sold 14.1 million iPhones in the quarter, which represents a 91 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter, and was well ahead of IDC’s latest published estimate of 64 percent growth for the global smartphone market in the September quarter. And it handily beats RIM’s 12.1 million BlackBerrys sold, in their most recent quarter ending in August.

Steve Jobs is responsible for the canceling of a $10 million iAd deal

1

Apple’s CEO was personally responsible for the recent canceling of a $10 million iAd campaign. Steve Jobs wasn’t satisfied with the direction Adidas was taking with its advertising concept. After third rejection of the campaign concept, Adidas pulled out of $10 million iAd deal.

The reason behind the cancellation was Steve Jobs being a “control freak”. Apple, unlike other mobile advertising providers, controls the entire advertising process with its iAd program. While Apple has insisted this has more to do with the quality of the end product, it has definitely caused some problems for advertisers.
