Skyfire iOS browser approved by Apple, converts Flash video to HTML5 [Video]

A new iPhone and iPad mobile browser from Skyfire was recently approved by Apple. This new iOS application converts Flash-based video to HTML5 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. The app, which is priced at $2.99 and tomorrow will be available for download from the App Store, activates a function that allows Flash video content in the browser to be sent to Skyfire's servers, converted to HTML5, and sent back to the device for display. However, it won't work with Flash-based games, which require interactivity, or popular TV streaming site Hulu.

iOS 4.2 GM has updated multitasking bar and MobileMe login

Apple Investigating Issue With Monster Headphones

Apple is now investigating an issue with a number of Monster-branded headphones for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. These include those under Monster’s Lil Jamz, Jamz, Turbine and Heartbeat lines. As reported, the abovementioned Monster headphone models do not satisfy Apple’s technical specifications. These headphones use conductive materials, which can result in electrical shorts that cause an iPod or iPhone to pause and play erratically, skip forward or back through songs. Customers may not be aware that the issue is caused by the headphones and may believe that the iPod or iPhone is defective instead. Moreover, Apple received lots of complaints from customers, who believe that the issue is caused by their Apple device. In addition, Apple mentioned that these headphones do not endanger safety of the iPod or iPhone and could not damage devices.

When Microsoft acquired Bungie Jobs Was Angered On Ballmer

After almost ten years it appears that after Microsoft's acquisition of Halo's creator Bungie Steve Jobs called Steve Ballmer to express his anger on this deal. Here is what said former vice president of game publishing at Microsoft Ed Fries in his recent interview to Develop:

"...[Jobs] was mad at Ballmer and phoned him up and was angry because we'd just bought the premier Mac game developer and made them an Xbox developer."

Nintendo of America president: Apple is a serious threat for us

In a recent interview to Forbes the president of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime shared his thoughts on Apple. He said that iPod and iPhone are perceived as devices for casual games in most cases and that Apple is a serious threat for his company.

“Do I think that in the near term they can hurt us more than Microsoft? Absolutely.”

The first iPod was launched on October 23, 2001. It begot a whole family of highly-popular portable media players. The first model had a 5 GB hard drive, put, in the words of Steve Jobs, "1000 songs in your pocket" and was Mac-compatible. The first model was pretty expensive; it cost near $400. Modern iPods are tiny; some of them have 160 GB hard drive. Even the iPhone and iPad were created on the base of the iPod.

Apple has a bad influence on the hard drive industry

John Coyne, who is a CEO at Western Digital, revealed yesterday that tablet devices like Apple's iPad are negatively affecting on the hard drive business. Talking in numbers, iPad may reduce shipments of low-end netbooks and laptops on 10-20 percent over the next few quarters. But Coyne tried to reassure investors the business will be still profitable:

"What I would say to investors is to look at the long-term demand for storage, the fact is the most appropriate solution for mass volume storage is hard drives and to look at the long-term progress the industry has made over the last 10 years".

Recently Apple has updated Games section for the iPhone version of the App Store. This updated games section now has its own games pane, which consists of 4 parts: New, What’s Hot, Categories (way to get into all the gaming categories) and Genius.

iSuppli's teardown analysis claims that the parts in the 8 GB version of the sixth generation nano cost $43.73. Manufacturing costs are estimated at $1.37. Based on iSuppli's breakdowns of all six generations of the iPod nano, the current generation ranks as second least expensive.
