Some MobileMe features going free for iOS users?

mobileme

Apple seems to bring some free options to their paid MobileMe service. As you can see in the shot above, the code shows free MobileMe accounts for iOS devices. The code also says “This Apple ID cannot be used for MobileMe Mail, but you can use it for other MobileMe services.” That means that free accounts may be used for features other than email, as this message specifically restricts certain Apple IDs from being used with MobileMe Mail. Other MobileMe iPhone services include Find My iPhone, iDisk, Contact/Calendar/Safari/Notes over-the-air sync, and Photo Galleries. So, may be Apple will begin offering MobileMe syncing services for free.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2: what can we expect?

iOS 4.2 Jailbreak

Next iPhone/iPod/iPad firmare iOS 4.2 is due out soon. What can we expect in terms of jailbreaking 4.2?

Limera1n exploit for 4.2 in most cases is a tethered jailbreak. That means if you have to reboot your device, it will show a "connect to itunes" logo until you run the jailbreak software again.

  • iPhone 3G - will run 4.2 untethered. Redsn0w will be updated.
  • iPhone 3GS - old bootrom will run 4.2 untethered if done via Pwnagetool while updating from 4.1. Otherwise it will be tethered.
  • iPhone 4 - tethered
  • iPod 2G - untethered.
  • iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G - tethered
  • iPad - tethered.

Tethered jailbreak isn’t that bad for iPads and iPods. But if something happens and your iphone reboots while you’re away from your computer, you cant use the device until you get home and run some tool on your computer again.

We suggest not updating until new expoit will be implemented in new utility.

The community is working on a solution to this to either make the jailbreak untethered or at least semi-tethered. Semi-tethered means the device will at least reboot, but unjailbroken while on the road until you return to your computer.

Apple issues developers second iOS 4.2 gold master for iPad

biult ios

Instead of the iOS 4.2 public release, Apple on Friday seeded a second gold master of iOS 4.2 build for the iPad, labeled 8C134b. Apple didn’t report what changes have been made in the new version, but it’s possible that they should deal with the WiFi issue that some users experienced with the pre-release build and that apparently delayed the launch of iOS 4.2.

Typically a gold master issued to developers is identical to the version that becomes the final release.

Apple kills AirPlay on iPhone 3G [Video]

doesnt-airplay1

Multiple developers and users testing out the iOS 4.2 betas claim that the AirPlay functionality was definitely removed from Apple’s iPhone 3G. AirPlay is gone from the golden master version of iOS 4.2. In fact, the AirPlay did work on the iPhone 3G at the previous betas. There are no any reasonable causes why the AirPlay was cut from the GM version.  Perhaps, Apple is trying to get users to upgrade to their latest iPhone model or, on the other hand, it is just an issue in the GM seed. May be the AirPlay functionality will return in iOS 4.2 public release. Anyway, there will undoubtedly be a jailbreak that can re-enable it.

iOS 4.2 reportedly delayed, iPad WiFi issues to blame

ios-4.2

Apple may reportedly delay the release of iOS 4.2 until November 16th. The delay is probably coursed by a serious Wi-Fi issue. Many users of the Golden Master version of 4.2 reported that a WiFi connection could be established by their devices but after establishing connection they were unable to do anything on the Internet. “This will delay the release for at least a week while it is tested, but may not get public release until the following week as it appears Apple will be testing it vigorously. iOS 4.2 should, however, come out before Thanksgiving (November 25)", - the MacStories’ source claimed.

Mac OS X 10.6.5 and iTunes 10.1 to Launch on Wednesday? iOS 4.2 on Friday?

ipad_ios4_screenshots

MacStories’s source close with AT&T claims that new iOS 4.2 will be released on Friday at 10 a.m. Mac OS X 10.6.5 completed and waiting for launch.  iTunes 10.1 was ready 3 weeks ago - likely after the release of beta 2 to developers. Both updates should be released on Wednesday. iOS 4.2 will require iTunes 10.1 to be installed and  will bring AirPrint and AirPlay to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. But Mac users need Mac OS X 10.6.5 to share a printer with an iOS device, while Windows users will access a printer through iTunes 10.1.
