Hi: In viewing the presentation I saw what might be a
dealbreaker for me with time stamp between 10:14 and
10:15: 10:15AM No flash here… the missing plugin icon is on screen. If they don't have runtime Java this
device will not be able to run a variety of programs
that I currently run on both my PCs and Macs. I feel
that my iPod Touch is extremely hobbled by not having
runtime Java and it seems that Apple has hobbled the
new iPad in the same way. The other deficiency I see
immediately is no iSight??? Even the iPhone and the
iPod Nano have this so why is it too much to ask that
it be included in the iPad. My guess is that due to
user demand they will have to put an iSight into the
NEXT generation of the iPad. As for runtime Java,
even Steve could not get to a website he tried to
surf to because of no runtime Java. This seems to
be a corporate decision but it seems as shortsighted
as the decision not to enable the iPod Touch to do
runtime Java or as some people refer to it Java
Flash. Arunas Rudvalis

- Tutorial: install Java on the IPhone
Question for Admin: What about the new iTablet? Will
it have Java on it like I have for my PC and my
MacBookPro? or is it part of "Apple doesn't want
Java to be on the iPhone. I suspect that they still
don't want it because in your iTablet demo at time
stamp 10:15, Steven Jobs (using Safari) goes to some
website and gets the same little Box icon that I get
on my iPod Touch when I try to use Safari to go to
websites that use Runtime/Flash? Java. I sure wish
someone could create a workaround for this b/c then
I might be tempted to buy an iTablet and jailbreak
it so as to be able to use Java through Safari.
Without this I feel the iTablet (just like my
current iPod Touch) is crippled from doing many
things it should be able to do. I am sure it is
not as cool and as small, but until they bring Java
into the picture I guess I will have to continue
using a Hackintosh of Snow Leopard on my Dell
Mini Netbook (poor man's iTablet) which even has a
(Dell Version) of iSight, which I guess won't appear on the iTablet until we get to the next generation.
