According to Bloomberg’s report, today Samsung CEO Kwon Oh Hyun and Apple CEO Tim Cook will have a phone conversation ahead of jury deliberations scheduled to begin this week. Bloomberg reports that lawyers of two companies will report to Judge Lucy Koh on the outcome of today’s phone discussion. The report notes:

“As testimony in the trial drew to a close, Koh asked that the CEOs talk, and said she was “pathologically optimistic” they could settle claims over patents for smartphones and tablet computers”.

Samsung and Apple’s CEOs already met several times before the trial and they were unable to come to a compromise, but now Samsung is operating under new head Kwon Oh Hyun, who took the position in early June.

According to Apple’s estimates, Samsung should pay it approximately $2.5 billion in damages resulted from sales of Samsung devices infringing upon Apple’s patents. At the same Samsung claims that Apple should pay it roughly $400 million in license fees for 3G-related patents with royalty rate of 2.4 percent per unit sold. Apple believes that the license fees for the patents essential to the industry standards should be significantly lower.
