There’s No Startup Sound on New MacBook Pro Models
Apple has killed the traditional Mac startup chime with the release of the updated MacBook Pro. First users who purchased the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro confirm that there’s no startup sound. There are other proofs as well.
In addition to users who don’t hear the usual chime after reboot, Apple has confirmed the change itself. The Apple Support article about resetting NVRAM previously said that it is required to hold the Command-Option-P-R keys once the computer restarts and the users hears the startup sound for the second time. Right now, the English version of the article contains different instructions:
Hold these keys [Command-Option-P-R] down for at least 20 seconds to ensure that your Mac completes the process correctly.
The reason for Apple to kill the startup chime is unknown, like the reasons for most strange decisions.
