Samsung to Pay Apple $119.6 Million for Infringing on ‘Slide to Unlock’ Patent





Apple has won an appeal in the court case against its South Korean rival Samsung over the ‘slide to unlock’ patent. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled that Samsung is guilty and has to pay Apple $119.6 million for infringing on its patents. Apple Confirms iPhone 7 Launch Dates for New Countries



Apple has confirmed the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2 launch dates for a couple of new countries.

In particular, on October 14th, local retailers will start selling new devices in Macao, Macedonia, Malaysia, Montenegro, and Turkey. On October 15th, the iPhone 7 will become available in Jordan and Oman. On October 20th, both new handsets and smartwatches will go on sale in Israel. Finally, on October 21st, the sales of the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch will begin in Maurice, Madagascar, Maroc, Ukraine, and Uganda.

Apple launched the iPhone 7 in India on Friday. Currently, the new device is available on all major markets.

Apple Seeds iOS 10.1 Beta 2 to Public Testers



Apple has released the second beta of iOS 10.1 to public testers. The release comes one day after the release of the same build to developers.

The update contains a number of bug fixes and stability improvements. In particular, Apple has fixed an issue causing the Notes app quit unexpectedly. The company also recommends the users who face the problem go to Settings - iCloud, disable and then enable the Notes once again. This should help.

iOS 10.1 brought the long-awaited ‘Portrait’ mode to the Camera app on the iPhone 7 Plus. It also contains some fixes for multitasking that make the open apps stay active in the background.

Apple Discontinues Apple TV 3 - Confirmed



Apple has discontinued the third-generation Apple TV and removed the device from its online store. Moreover, the company confirmed that it will no longer produce and officially promote the older set-top box, focusing on the newer Apple TV 4 working on tvOS.

Apple Launches Apple Pay in Russia



Apple Pay has started working in Russia marking the tenth country of the service availability. Since its launch in the USA in 2014, Apple’s contactless payment service has debuted to the United Kingdom, China, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Hong Kong, France, Singapore, and Russia.

Currently, Apple Pay works only with Mastercard cards issued by Sberbank. With time, however, the service will start working with other major banks and retailers including ATAK, Auchan, Magnit, Azbuka Vkusa, Media Markt, M.Video, and several others. Moreover, soon Apple Pay will start working at Eldorado and Burger King.

Apple is steadily expanding Apple Pay to major markets. Soon the service will debut in New Zealand.

Zerodium Offers $1.5 Million for iOS 10 Zero-Day Exploit



A security firm called Zerodium has promised $1.5 million to anyone who finds a zero-day vulnerability in iOS 10. The award for finding a similar vulnerability in iOS 9 was previously $1 million.

According to the researchers, the flaw makes it easier to access encrypted iOS 10 backups made using iTunes as the backup process ignores some security checks that were present in iOS 9 and older versions of Apple’s operating system.

Apple Releases Public Betas of macOS 10.12.1 and iOS 10.1



Apple has released first betas of macOS Sierra 10.12.1 and iOS 10.1 to public testers. Both software versions contain several bug fixes and minor improvements aimed at making macOS and iOS more stable and efficient. The latter one also features a new Portrait camera mode for the iPhone 7 Plus. Apple has seeded new public betas one day after the release of the developer builds.

If you have a compatible device and an account of the public software tester, you can download, install, and test macOS Sierra 10.12.1 and iOS 10.1 right now. However, if you expect to see new features or any other major changes, there’s no need to do this. Apple hasn’t yet included anything particularly interesting to the updates.
