App Store: 1.5 Billion apps have been downloaded

Apple today announced that customers have downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications in just one year. Here's more statistics: there are now 65,000 apps in AppStore and more than 100,000 developers in the iPhone Developer Program. Great news. AppStore is really revolutionary. Here is a comment from Steve Jobs:
“The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”
Jailbreak and firmware stats from PinchMedia
We just posted statistics from AdMob about firmwares on iPhones and iPods. Here are the numbers from another company - PinchMedia. This company deals with monitoring the use of applications.
The results below show that:
- most users (66%) use firmware 2.2.1,
- only 1 of 4 users installed the new 3.0 firmware,
- 7.3% of iPhone and iPod Touch owners performed jailbreak.


1 Million iPhone 3G S Sold and 6 Million Firmware 3.0 Downloads

Apple announced today that the company has sold over 1 million iPhone 3G S models over this past weekend. The press release notably includes a quote from Steve Jobs:
"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever."
The sales figures match those of last year's iPhone 3G launch weekend sales numbers. Apple also reports that six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software which works on the existing 40 million iPhone and iPod touch models.
Firmware 3.0 Beta 4
Apple released new firmware 3.0 beta4. It is only for developers' use and it requires iTunes 8.2.
Several developers report a pink screen error. When usiing iTunes 8.2 the screen should be pink for a few seconds and then the upgrade process will start. Others report that pink screen disappears after reboot.
iTunes 8.2 dev pre-release: Blue-ray support

Apple pre-released new version of iTunes 8.2. It is avaliable only for developers. The big change is a support for Blu-Ray. This leaves us to imagine that in the future Apple will add support reading/recognizing Blu-Ray discs
WWDC 2009: Sold Out
Apple has updated the official website dedicated to the WWDC, the event where Apple will present Firmware 3.0, the new iPhone and more. The news are great - all available seats are gone.
The latest rumors say that the Keynote will not be presented by Steve Jobs.
One billion apps downloads in AppStore

Push Notification Service avaliable for developers

Apple has just let developers know that they can start testing the upcoming Push Notification Service starting today:
Start testing your applications using the Apple Push Notification service today. Log in to the iPhone Dev Center and review the Apple Push Notification Programming Guide and Getting Started video. Team Agents can log in to the iPhone Developer Program Portal and proceed to the App ID section to create the components necessary to enable and test applications using the Apple Push Notification service.

iTunes 8.1.1

Apple updated iTunes to version 8.1.1. Official changelog is: "iTunes 8.1.1 adds support for renting HD movies and provides a number of bug fixes, including addressing issues with VoiceOver and syncing with iPhone or iPod touch.". Download it .
Firmware 3.0 Beta 2 is released
The new firmware 3.0 Beta 2 is released. The code of the new build is "7A259g". No info about new added features is avaliable yet.

How To create an iTunes App Store account without a credit card
To create an iTunes App Store account without a credit card please follow the steps below.
Note: In order to create an account without a credit card, you must make sure you are in the App Store, not the iTunes Store.
- Pick your country from the pop-up menu at the bottom of the iTunes Store homepage.
- If your country also has an iTunes Store, you'll need to navigate to the App Store by clicking on the "App Store" link from the menu on the left. If not, proceed to step 3.

Apple uses a jailbroken iPhone in patent application
Recently we talked about Apple's second patent about biometric security. The funny thing is that the images used in this patent show a jailbroken firmware 1.x iPhone, with installed Installer.app, SMBPrefs and the iWood Realize theme from the iSpazio repository. There are also "Terminal", "Game", "VRecord", "Blocks" and others.

WWDC 2009: June 8 - 12

Apple has announced the date for it’s 2009 World Wide Developer Conference: June 8-12.
Last year, Steve Jobs’ Keynote at WWDC gave us an update on iPhone 2.0, the introduction of MobileMe, and the unveiling of the iPhone 3G. What will they have for us this year? More iPhone 3.0 no doubt. iPhone gen 3? Snow Leopard? Mac Netbook?
As usual, will be held at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, and will again consist of iPhone, Mac, and IT streams. Apple says:
