Check out this iPhone 4S vs. iPhone 4 comparison video that shows the speed difference between the two devices when launching various applications.
Here is a quick speedtest on AT&T 3G network:
iPhone 4S back camera is really good. Better lens, many megapixels. However the iPhone 4S back camera really benefits from the new A5 chip, that has image signal processor unit responsible for nice real-time image processing, including face detection, white balance and automatic image stabilization. The difference between shaky iPhone 4 clips and smooth stabilized iPhone 4S footage really makes all the difference

Here is another video comparing iPhone 4S with Canon EOS 500D (T1i):
UnitediPhoneRepair has posted an iPhone 4S drop test video. Of course, the iPhone 4S shares the same external design as the iPhone 4, and yes, it still breaks when dropped on its glass screen.
9to5mac reports that big lines are clearing and Apple Stores actually have some stock of iPhone 4S left over. The photo above illustrates a store in Naples, Florida. Also the lines are not as big as the iPhone 4 launch. And there are few reasons for that.
First of all, Apple now has more points of sale (AT&T, Verizon and Sprint Stores, BestBuy, Sam’s Club, etc). Plus, users made lot's of online pre-orders, 1 million iPhone 4S were sold in the first 24 hours on 100 carriers (vs. 5 countries last year). Some say Apple will sell 4 million units in the first weekend alone.
Today is the iPhone 4S launched day. And Apple’s stock just closed at $422 a share. The company costs $391.23B. This is all-time high for the company. Amazing!!
If network speed means a lot to you, here is a video comparison of iPhone 4S with 3 different network speeds in the US. You can choose between AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. The test shows the loading of websites, video and also runs SpeedTest application on all three networks. Guess, who is the winner.
Just remember that you might get different results, because it depends on your location.
The iPhone Dev-Team has released an update to their UltraSn0w unlock bringing support for iOS 5. Remember that NO new basebands are supported in this release. It only adds support for iOS 5 with old basebands.
Here is the list of supported basebands:
- iPhone 4: 01.59.00
- iPhone 3G/3GS: 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, 06.15.00.
Ultrasn0w 1.2.4 is available in Cydia.
The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 - an official tethered jailbreak for iOS 5. Users don't have to point to downloaded iOS 5 ipws any more. Just run and jailbreak.
Currently only the Mac version has been made available. Windows version is coming soon. However Windows users can still jailbreak iOS 5 with Redsn0w 0.9.9.b4, - just go to "Extras" -> "Select IPWS" and select your iOS 5 ipsw file (can download here).
Good news for users who need carrier unlock (ultrasn0w or Gevey Sim). With RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 you can update to iOS 5 and preserve the baseband (modem) version for unlock:
The new "Custom IPSW" button on the Extras screen will create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0gm (iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only, for now). Remember not to accidentally restore to the stock IPSW after you create the custom one! The custom one begins with NO_BB_ (for "no baseband").
You must enter "Pwned DFU" mode before trying to use the NO_BB_ IPSW with iTunes (and your hosts file cannot be pointing to Cydia's servers due to the new blob nonce mechanism they're using in iOS5).
We will update our step-by-step tutorials soon.
You can download RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 (Mac) and RedSn0w 0.9.9b4 (Windows) here.
PS: RedSn0w 0.9.9 is a bit different from 0.9.8 version. You can learn more about other new redsn0w 0.9.9 features here.
UPDATE: Windwos users can use sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 to preserve baseband.

Today Apple has begun selling its new iPhone 4S in seven countries: US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Japan and Australia. The device is available in two colors (black, white) and three storage sizes (16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB). As usual, lines have begun forming near Apple Stores worldwide and Apple Store employees were pulling overnight shifts to put up new displays and promo materials for the iPhone 4S launch.
The Japanese launch was hampered by registration slowdowns from Softbank, according to the Wall Street Journal:
The launch of the iPhone 4S in Japan was interrupted when Softbank – the main service provider for Apple products in the country—suffered a server glitch that temporarily suspended sales nationwide. A company spokesman said the servers were unable to process registration information.
Apple has already received more than one million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S. Analysts are predicting that weekend sales will exceed the iPhone 4 which were sold 1.7 million units its opening weekend. Estimates range from 2 million to 4 million.
As usual, iFixit conducted their standard teardown of Apple's latest gear, this time it was Apple’s next generation iPhone 4S. The device has largely the same design as the iPhone 4, but inside it is different. The new iPhone 4S has a slightly larger battery that improves battery capacity and offers extra hours of talk time, comparing with the iPhone 4.
Other new thing implemented in the iPhone 4S is the A5 chip that improves performance up to seven times, comparing with the iPhone 4. The A5 CPU has a marking of E4E4 with 512MB of RAM. The teardown also revealed a new Qualcomm MDM6610 baseband chipset that is the slightly modified model of the “worldwide” MDM6600 Qualcomm baseband used in the CDMA iPhone 4 that, as you remember, has both CDMA and GSM modes, but works in only CDMA networks. The iPhone 4S is the true worldwide smartphone, which will allow both GSM and CDMA customers to roam on GSM networks worldwide
Yesterday Apple released the long-awaited iOS 5 for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, first-generation iPad, fourth-generation iPod touch, and third-generation iPod touch. An update is also available for the Apple TV, bringing wireless mirroring functionality over AirPlay. To update to the iOS 5 users should install iTunes 10.5 released on Tuesday. Noteworthy it is the last time when Apple provides their users with update with USB. All next updates will be available wirelessly, without the need to use a cable.
The iOS 5 pack includes more that 200 new features. The most noteworthy among them are the following:
Above you can see a hands on video of Siri and some other features on new iPhone 4S. Apart from some practical examples, the reviewer asks such questions and statements as "I Love You" and "How Old Are You".
The iPhone 4S is still believed to have 512MB of RAM, just like the iPhone 4. The Infinity Blade developer, who suggested that, found out this fact when he tried to demo his game on the new iPhone 4S during last week's keynote.
"I'm still shocked that, with the iPhone 4S, I'm literally running around with a 1080p video camera in my pocket, with an eight megapixel camera, 64GB of hard drive space and an A5 chip with 512MB of memory. This is a really powerful computer, right?
AppVV also confirms that the iPhone 4S has 512MB of RAM. This fact is repeated on their Weibo page as well in response to a question:
Re @ LogIn_Kim: RAM have said before, is still 512MB.
Though they don't say how they found out that.
German website Macerkopf.de. has reported that some German customers have apparently received their pre-ordered iPhone 4S ahead of its official launch, October 14th. The iPhone 4S pre-ordered through Deutsche Telekom was delivered this morning. The lucky customer promptly shared photos of the packaging, device and Siri. The packaging is almost similar to the iPhone 4’ one. The new assistant is now available in English, French and German, with more languages to come in the future. The US customers are still waiting for their devices that will start shipping on October 14th.
