Apple Paying Record Companies Up To $150 Million For iCloud
The New York Post reports that Apple will pay between $100 and $150 million in advance payments to the four major record labels, Sony Music, EMI, Warner Music and Universal, for iCloud license agreements with them. Each of them was offered between $25 million and $50 million. Of course, the total amount will depend on number of songs consumers will store in iCloud.
The New York Post also mentioned that Apple would receive 30 % of fees, the music publishers - 12% and the rest would go towards record labels and artists. Apple is known to have finalized all deals concerning iCloud. The last one was recently sealed with Universal Music. The official iCloud announcement will be made on Monday, June 6, at the WWDC keynote.

The Los Angeles Times reports that iCloud will be offered for free with a purchase from the iTunes Store. That means that a digital download may include free online storage or a free subscription. Though many believe that subscription won’t be free, because users will want to form their libraries as quick as possible, and may cost as little as $ 25 per year.
The LA Times says Apple initially plans to allow consumers to store their data on Apple’s servers, and would like to offer much more than music in the realm of movies, television, and other digital content through iCloud’s publishing platform. Whether that storage involves uploading your own media or having iTunes scan your library is currently unknown, but we’re hoping for the latter.
OS X Lion To Be Offer iCloud Features for Free
AppleInsider reports that its sources familiar with Apple’s plans claim that this summer the company will offer some iCloud features and services for free for users who will upgrade to Mac OS X Lion. According to recent rumors, iCloud will replace MobileMe.
People familiar with Apple’s plans indicated to AppleInsider that at least one of those secrets is expected to be that at least some of the services included in iCloud will be offered for free to Mac users who make the upgrade to Lion. iCloud is expected to replace the company’s existing MobileMe service, which offers e-mail and remote file storage, along with syncing of bookmarks, contacts and calendar events, at a price tag of $99 per year. That price tag may remain for users who do not make the upgrade to Lion, or for Windows users. But it is expected that the cloud services will become free to Mac users who run the latest version of Mac OS X.
Apple’s Data Center Makes A Google Maps Appearance
Apple’s new data center in Maiden, North Carolina, is now visible in Google Maps. The building hasn’t changed at all – it’s the same constriction we’ve seen in different shots during the past months. But it is interesting that only now Apple allowed Google to display the data center in theirs Maps service after Apple’s announcement concerning the WWDC where Apple confirmed that Steve Jobs would appear at the conference keynote and that the company will unveil the iOS 5, OS X Lion and iCloud. It seems that such sudden appearance of the data center in Google Maps may be a confirmation of Apple’s intention to use this massive facility for iCloud and cloud-related services.
New Mac Defender Variant Bypasses Apple’s Security Update
Yesterday we reported that Apple had released the Security Update for Snow Leopard users to automatically find and remove the known variants of the Mac Defender malware. Apple enables OS X to update malware definitions daily to make sure that new versions of Mac Defender and other malware software will be discovered and removed. But despite all Apple’s efforts, there was found a new variant of Mac Defender that manages to circumvent Apple’s new security update and work exactly like Mac Defender.
Apple Begins iPad 3 Component Certification for 2012, No AMOLED
Apple reportedly started the certification process for components that will be used in the iPad 3 set to be released in 2012 (despite some rumors concerning that Apple could release two iPad in 2011). Some component suppliers have already landed certifications; others will do it in the upcoming months.
Taiwan-based component makers for backlight modules and light bars have received certification from Apple, however, the certification of panels is still in progress, added industry sources. According to component makers, the timing for the launch of iPad 3 should be in 2012.
Apple Releases Security Update To Remove Mac Defender
Apple has released a software update that is able to automatically find and remove known variants of the MacDefender malware. The company added a “OSX.MacDefender.A” definition to the malware check and while installation the malware should be find and removed, then users should be notified that the MacDefender is removed.
Apple maintains a list of known malicious software that is used during the safe download check to determine if a file contains malicious software. The list is stored locally, and with Security Update 2011-003 is updated daily by a background process.
Apple Releases iWork for iPhone
Yesterday Apple released the iWork suit for iPhone with the same future set of the iPad. iWork for iPhone lets you easily manage and create documents, print them through AirPrint, and share them with iTunes. All three applications - Pages, Numbers and Keynote - come with a new document manager to organize documents into folders, Keynote brings deeper compatibility with the Keynote Remote and Pages sports a new feature called “Smart Zoom” for viewing and editing data.
“Now you can use Keynote, Pages and Numbers on iPhone and iPod touch to create amazing presentations, documents and spreadsheets right in the palm of your hand,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The incredible Retina display, revolutionary Multi-Touch interface and our powerful software make it easy to create, edit, organize and share all of your documents from iPhone 4 or iPod touch.”
Apple’s App Store Processes 59% Of All Mobile App Downloads
A new report issued by Research2Guidance shows that Apple dominates among other mobile application stores in terms of application downloads. In first quarter of 2011 59% of all applications were downloaded from the Apple’s App Store. Though the numbers are quiet large, they demonstrate a fall in 22% comparing with 81% then the App Store first opened. During the report 58 application stores were surveyed. Noteworthy, there were only 18 application stores when the iPhone App Store launched in July of 2008. The Android Market is the strongest competitor to the App Store that led to 24% fall of the App Store’s share of application downloads. Though, resent numbers show 2% increase of App Store’s share. Moreover, users, who already spent significant amounts of money on apps, unlikely want to switch to other mobile platform.
Apple Confirms: June 6 Keynote with Steve Jobs To Unveil iOS 5 and iCloud
Yesterday Apple confirmed through the press release that Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs will be on stage at the WWDC keynote on June 6th. While keynote iOS 5, Mac OS X Lion and iCloud, the upcoming cloud service from Apple, will be officially unveiled. According to an anonymous source, this reported product by DigiTimes is improved model of iPhone 4 on same form factor, and uses ARM Cortex-A9 chip as CPU, but it is not confirmed whether this model has single CPU or with dual CPU's.
They confirmed that the new iPhone (called “iPhone 4S”) will carry ARM Cortex-A9 CPU (A5 chip), however it is unknown whoever it will be single or dual core. The iPhone 4S is said to include the * mega-pixel camera and 3-4 antennas to provide compatibility with both AT&T and Verizon networks. Price of MacBook Air refurbs at the Apple Store dropped to $829

SEC violated procurement law by purchasing Apple equipment
The Washington Post reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission violated procurement law having purchased computer equipment in April, 2008. Total amount the SEC paid for equipment is almost $ 1 million. The SEC violated federal regulation then it avoided seeking competitive bids and placed order immediately with Apple. The SEC was seeking to purchase updated equipment in order to help meet its expanded duties in regulating the financial industry. Apple relied on the know budget (originally $200,000) of the SEC and forced the Commission to purchase essential equipment that cost the SEC another $773,000. The SEC responses that it has already taken appropriate actions against the employee, who was responsible for purchase.
