According to a new research from Strategy Analytics, Apple outstripped Samsung for the first time ever to become the number one vendor of mobile phones in U.S. The report notes that Apple sold 17.7 million iPhones during the fourth quarter of 2012 compared to 16.8 million sold by Samsung and 4.7 million sold by LG holding the third place.

According to the Strategy Analytics’ measuring global smartphone OS shipments for the fourth quarter of 2012, Android and iOS together represented 92% of all shipments. How Apple Prevented Verizon From Adding Siri To Droid handsets
According to a from The Huffington Post, Verizon tried to bring Siri’s technology to Droid phones long before Apple bought the voice assistant app.
The carrier signed a contract with the startup company in 2009 to include its functionality to Droid smartphones, and it even filmed commercials showing Siri as an Android add-on. In late November, research company Kantar Worldpanel reported that strong debut of the iPhone 5 allowed Apple to retake the lead in the U.S. sales from Android. Over the August-October timeframe, Apple's share of the market was assessed at 48.1% compared to Android's share of 46.7%.
