MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team has posted some details on the upcoming untethered jailbreak from pod2g.
All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements
@pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
- the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
- @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
- timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=4U6DQGJ2NRVUN
Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).
Pod2g has recently announced in twitter that the untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1 is just days away from release. This is great news for many iPhone, iPad and iPod users.
Thanks to awesome work of @planetbeing and @pimskeks, we're near ready for a release. Now it's a matter of days.
Here is the list of devices that are known to work for sure :
Apple released the new iOS firmware 5.0.1 (9B206f) for both Apple TV 2G and latest Apple TV 3G. The software update is said to bring fixes to AirPlay, Netflix, Home Sharing, and more. New firmware also includes HD previews for movies and TV shows on the iTunes Store.
You can find the download links below, or you can just hit the update version on your Apple TV.
Anand Tech reported on a detail in the new iPad 2 model that many have overlooked. When Apple launched the iPad 3 with Retina display and A5X chip, the company also released the iPad 2,4 model, which is almost identical to the iPad 2. However in this model Apple replaced a 45nm A5 processor with a 32nm A5. This is the most efficient Apple’s processor and its 32nm die size is likely to be used in the next iPhone’s processor. The same 32nm A5 processor is used in the 1080P Apple TV, however it is limited to a single core.
FireCore announced today that they have successfully jailbroken the Apple TV 2 with the latest iOS 5.1 (5.0). The jailbreak is tethered which requires the Apple TV to be connected to a Mac/PC when powering it on (each time).
Today we're happy to release new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with latest 5.0 (iOS 5.1) software running on the ATV2.
Yesterday Apple confirmed an ongoing error with iTunes in the Cloud. Some customers claimed that they are unable to download and stream content.
TheNextWeb's Matthew Panzarino contacted Apple Support to discuss a "this item cannot be downloaded on this network" error message that he and other users had been receiving on the Apple TV. The message directs users to do either "connect to a Wi-Fi network or download it" on their computers.
On Monday iFixit also get their hand on the recently released Apple TV. Having disassembled the device, the team found that this version of Apple’s set-top box does not have a thermal pad, suggesting it runs even cooler than its predecessor.
Even though it apparently runs cooler, the new CPU is more capable and allows users to output 1080p high-definition video content. The device still has the same power supply, though, providing 3.4V at 1.57A.
An earlier disassembly of the new Apple TV discovered that the updated set-top box features the same 8 gigabytes of storage as its predecessor. Monday's latest peek inside the Apple TV also found two antennae inside the device. The addition is presumed to boost signal strength in the latest Apple TV.
Apple is widely expected to reveal its next-generation iPad at a special media event in the first week of March. The iPad 3 is believed to carry a ultra-high resolution 2048x1536 display that exceeds the resolution of 1080p content. Now Apple offers a maximum of 720p HD content on their iTunes Store.
We've already seen evidence that Apple has been working on a next generation Apple TV. Back in October, references to an unreleased "AppleTV3,1" model were found in the latest versions of iOS 5. Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly asked movie studios to start submitting 1080p content to the iTunes Store late last year.
