comScore MobiLens and Mobile Metrix has analized the data concerning the situation on the smartphone market in the USA for January 2014. It turns out that Apple is on the rise, constantly increasing it share, while Android is falling behind. Blackberry lost the third place to Windows Phone.
Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 41.6 percent OEM market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 51.7 percent platform market share. Google Sites ranked as the top mobile media property, while Facebook was the top individual app.
Smartphone OEM Market Share
The research found out that 66.8% of the USA population , which equals to 159.8 million people, own smartphones. The market is growing as the figure is 7% higher than in October. Apple is the leader of the OEM rating with the share of 41.6 % of the USA smartphone subscribers. Its position has improve since October judging by 1% increase of the share in question. Samsung comes the second and occupies 26.7 % of the market with 1.3 % monthly rise. LG is the third best with 6.9 % market share and growth of 0.3 % points. Motorola and HTC gained 6.4% and 5.4% respectively.
Smartphone Platform Market Share
Android boasts the most popular smartphone platform with the market share of 51.7% in January. Apple is the second with 41.6%. It is the only platform in the list whose share has grown since October. The followers are BlackBerry with 3.1 percent, Microsoft with 3.2 percent and Symbian with 0.2 percent.
Top Smartphone Properties & Apps
89.4% of the mobile media audience is occupied by Google Sites, this includes mobile browsing and app usage. The second best is Facebook (86.6%) followed by Yahoo Sites (86.2 %) and Amazon Sites (69%). Facebook is the most populr app among audience, which gives it 77.6% of the app audience. Then goes Google Play (52.4%), YouTube (49.7%) and Google Search (48.9%).
