Apple ships iPads to reviewers this week

ipad-review

According to BusinessInsider, reviewers will receive iPads from Apple reportedly this week:

"We've heard from an industry source that Apple is either shipping iPads to reviewers this Thursday, or has already shipped them to be received this Thursday."

It is interesting, that there is no information whether Apple will send wifi or 3G versions of the device.

As iPad goes on sale April 3, reviewers will have approximately a week to test the device before they will publish their reviews.

Steve Jobs Answering More E-mails

Steve Jobs

As time goes by Apple CEO receives more e-mails and answers on some of it. If you analyze his behavior, you can see that it becomes a tradition to answer to company's customers before the announcement of a new device. So maybe we can expect something revolutionary again, but at this moment we can just take a look at what we have for today.

Two days ago a Macrumors reader mailed a letter to Steve Jobs. He was concerned about whether Apple will lose their vision on the MacBooks' department. The answer was:

"Not to worry."

Another TUAW reader asked if he will have an ability to transfer his Google Docs to the iPad through iDisk or iWork.com. Steve Jobs answered shortly again:

"Yes".

A man calling himself Julio R. was wondering, if we can expect a universal mailbox on the iPod Touch or iPhone. Jobs reply:

"Yep".

TheAppleLounge reader mailed this:

The patents that were named in the suit are listed below:

Apple billboard is adjudged to be illegal

BillBoard

CBS Outdoor claimed last week it will remove 2 Apple billboards because of a cease-and-desist letter, that was sent from the city attorney's office earlier.

But that is not the end of the problems for this advertising company, as it may hold the responsibility for that amount of time the ads were displayed. At the moment there is no information about whether Apple will assist anyhow or no.

The issue is induced by the continuing crackdown against "supergraphics" in Los Angeles. For the last few months many illegal signs have been removed. One of the resonsible persons even spent three days in jail for posting forbidden advertisements.

Apple also had problems with their ads before. The giant iPod Touch advertisement at 1205 N. Highland Ave. broke and felt down on the ground last October. Another banner became related to a political controversy, and one dubious Apple billboard was removed without explanation in November.

Steve Jobs visited Children Hospital

st-jobs-organ-dnor

Two days ago Steve Jobs joined the meeting with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Lucile Packard Hospital for Children in Palo Alto, California. The event was aimed to  help advance organ donation legislation.

In 2009 Jobs received a liver transplant in Tennessee. He said he was fortunate he could get a new organ, because without it he could die.

So now Jobs, obviously, wants to help save more people's lives. If the legislation will be passed, Californians will be able to affirm their preferred organ donor status much easier. Apple's CEO says the current system is an obscure process.

iPhone user made an alphabet from 500 apps

An iPhone user with a nickname Urikane have put together almost full alphabet using 500 apps. That obviously took a lot of time. Watch the video:

As you can see, there is no "W" letter, and the status bar is moving with apps, so Urikane was probably just browsing the photos, but still this work must have taken forever.

400,000 iPads Will Likely Be Pre-Ordered By Friday

iPad

Fortune has two sources saying about the number of iPads that will be pre-sold by Friday.

Venezuelan analyst and blogger Daniel Tello, who tried to track order numbers that were submitted by internet volunteers, said:

“I think sometime during Friday, perhaps before noon, the counter should roll to 200,000 units pre-ordered.”

Boy Genius counted 222 retail locations in the USA with 700 in-store pick-up reservations for the first week of pre-orders. Fortune believes it is almost the same rate as online.

Summing the numbers of online and offline pre-orders we'll have almost 400,000 iPads to be pre-sold for only 7 days!

20-years Old Xerox Report Predicts Devices Bigger Than iPad

samsung MultiTouch Board

Almost twenty years ago Scientific American posted an article of Xerox PARC. Its authors were thinking about the future technology and decided the next stage of it will be the ubiquitous computers.

"Ubiquitous computers will also come in different sizes, each suited to a particular task. My colleagues and I have built what we call tabs, pads and boards: inch-scale machines that approximate active Post-It notes, foot-scale ones that behave something like a sheet of paper (or a book or a magazine), and yard-scale displays that are the equivalent of a blackboard or bulletin board.”

They were right - tabs are the iPhones and iPods Touch and pads are iPads. But does it mean that we can expect from Apple something really huge like big-screen hubs? Such devices have already been developed (the best example is Microsoft's Surface table, the other one is Samsung MultiTouch Board shown on the picture), but they are still too expensive because of a flat-screen TV components.

Every tenth Microsoft's employee uses iPhone

Steve Ballmer

The Wall Street Journal has information that nearly 10,000 iPhone users regularly access the Microsoft employee mail system. Such a number represents almost 10% of the company's global staff.

It is really interesting as Microsoft executives are not happy to see their employees using products of rival companies. Its CEO Steve Ballmer already had an accident last September when he caught a man from the company's personnel who tried to snap a photo of an entrance with his iPhone. At that moment he was so angry he put the phone on the ground and pretended to stomp on it. After that he walked away.

The WSJ also reports:

"...the company in early 2009 modified its corporate cellphone policy to only reimburse service fees for employees using phones that run on Windows Phone software."

It is obvious the company tries to reassure its employees to use its software and hardware, but they continue to hide and even customize their iPhones to make them look more like generic handsets.
