Sep 13 New iPad Factory in Brazil Is “Ready”, Already Making iPads for December
The Brazilian Minister of Science and Technology, Aolizio Mercadante, has confirmed that the new Apple’s factory is “ready”, and even already making iPads that will begin shipping in Brazil from this December.
At first many doubted, but it will be the first time that the company will produce iPads outside Chinese territory. We are taking a big step for digital inclusion in the country,” he said. Mercadante also said that the federal government will announce in the coming days to invest in a big factory of games in the Manaus Free Zone.
The new Brazilian factory is a result of a joint effort by the Brazilian government and Foxconn, manufacturer of the iPhone and iPad that reportedly invested $12 billion in this new factory. As Apple planed production started in late August / early September. We also reported that in June Foxconn hired 175 engineers for the new factory.

According to , production of iPhone 5 is in full swing with 150,000 manufactured units per day. However, this rate is not quite sufficient for Apple, as it plans to release the iPhone for the holiday season.
"Lens maker Largan Precision, touch panel maker TPK Holding, reinforced glass supplier G-Tech Optoelectronics and battery vendors Simplo and Dynapack are all operating at full swing currently, the sources indicated".

Apple Suppliers in China Are Accused of Systematic Pollution
the Financial Times, five Chinese environmental groups accused Apple’s local suppliers of systematic pollution and taking "advantage of the loopholes in developing countries' environmental management systems".
Unlike previous times, Apple apparently has soften towards Mia Jun, the director of Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (a co-author of the report) just hours before the report was published and invited her to a dialogue on the problem.

For 3Q Foxconn Is Expected To Manufacture 20 Million iPad 2s
According to , Foxconn, a manufacturer of Apple gadgets, is expected to produce 20 million iPad 2s in the third quarter. This order more than doubles the 9.25 million iPads that Apple sold during the second quarter. DigiTimes reports:
Apple, Intel and Microsoft Are Interested in Turkish Government Project
Apple, Intel and Microsoft are examining a new Turkish government project, which is aimed to find a company that could build and supply up to 15 million tablets for Turkish school children in the next four years.
In his interview to Anatolia news agency Trade Minister Zafer Caglayan told that the three companies are actively bidding on this government-funded project, which is called Fatih (means 'conqueror' in Turkish) to Bloomberg.

Apple Cut Prices For Touch Panels By Nearly 50 Percent
As DigiTimes , despite Apple’s orders for touch panels from iPhone and iPad 2 have considerably grown for the third quarter, the company is said to place orders at about half the price of previous orders. This initiative could mean that Apple either attempting to lower BOM thus increasing margins at the expense of manufacturers, or the company is preparing for cutting prices ahead of new devices releases. Apple Turns To Samsung For Manufacturing iPad 2 Display Panel
According to DigiTimes , Apple has turned to suppliers other than LG Display (specifically Chimei Innolux and Samsung) because of some issues with 9.7-inch panel produced by LGD for the iPad 2. Apparently LG Display has failed to meet Apple’s July orders for around 1 million units and also it hasn’t fulfilled requirements in impact tests, during which backlight units of iPads 2 failed. Reportedly Apple has suspended its orders for new displays with LG, which until now has been the largest manufacturer of display panels for iPad 2.
Foxconn To Produce Tablets For Amazon
DigiTimes, Taiwanese trade publication, industry sources that said that the largest contract maker of gadgets in the world Foxconn will manufacture a rumored Amazon’s tablet powered by Android. They claim that the tablet will boast a 10.1-inch display and its shipments will begin in 2012. Quanta Computer, another Asian contract manufacturer, has already started shipments of a smaller 7-inch gadget to Amazon, the report writes.
Apple May Be Looking For A Second iPad Manufacturer
DigiTimes claims that Apple is seeking for the second manufacturer for the updated iPad set for release later this year.
Apple reportedly plans to add a second manufacturer for iPad 3 tablet PCs in addition to Foxconn Electronics with Taiwan-based Quanta Computer and [Pegatron] Technology being indicated as the potential contenders for the possible orders, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
[Pegatron], which reportedly have landed iPhone 5 orders from Apple, stands a better chance of winning the iPad 3 orders, the sources noted.
Pegatron now manufactures the CDMA iPhone 4 and Quanta is responsible for Mac production. Apple’s decision to add a new manufacturer for the iPad was mostly caused by the explosion on Foxconn plant and its circumstances. So the company seems to decide to minimize risk.
iPhone 5 Components Being Prepared For October Release, iPad 3 Too
DigiTimes reports that iPhone 5 и iPad 3 components suppliers are preparing materials for production of the rumoured devices expected to debut in September and to be launched officially in October.
DigiTimes sources claim that production of the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 will begin in August. They predict that in third quarter 6-7 million units of the iPhone 5 will be produced.
Upstream component makers including Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), which is in charge of assembling the devices; Simplo Technologies and Dynapack International Technology, in charge of manufacturing batteries; TPK Holding and Wintek, in charge of touch panel modules; Catcher, in charge of chassis; and Largan Precision, in charge of webcams, are all expected to benefit from the orders.
Three People Sent to Prison in China Over iPad 2 Leaks
The Wall Street Journal reports that three people in China were sentenced to prison terms from 12 to 19 months, they also must pay fines in amount from $4,500 to $23,000, because of leak of confidential information about the iPad 2.
The court announced the decision Tuesday in statements on its official account at Sina Weibo, a Twitter-like microblogging service in China. It said that Xiao Chengsong, general manager of Shenzhen MacTop Electronics Co., had offered 20,000 yuan, or about $3,000, plus discounts on MacTop products to a former Hon Hai employee named Hou Pengna, for information about the iPad 2. The court said Ms. Hou then paid Lin Kecheng, a Hon Hai research-and-development employee, to get digital images of the device's back cover from last September, six months before the iPad 2 was publicly announced.
Foxconn Lost Revenues Because Of iPad Factory Explosion
As you remember, last month an explosion at Foxconn plant in Chengdu, China, took life of three people and at least fifteen were injured. But the consequences of the tragedy affected not only people, but also Foxconn's profits. Here is what DigiTimes today:
Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) had non-consolidated revenues of NT$200.561 billion (US$6.95 billion) for May dropping 2.14 percent on month due to the impact of an explosion at its plant in Chengdu City, western China, according to the company.
The iPad plant went on fire on May 20 after the ignition of flammable aluminum dust. The production on the facility was resumed ten days ago. Previously we also reported SACOM warned Foxconn that its plant is Chengdu is dangerously explosive because of low damage control mode.
Chengdu Plant Shut Down May Reduce iPad 2 Production By 500,000 Units
It seems that the explosion at the Chengdu Foxconn plant may in fact lead to a loss in production of 500,000 iPads, despite contrary reports from yesterday. The figures come from IHS iSuppli, which did note the exact figure will depend on how long the plant remains closed.
The Chengdu plant is said to produce 30% of all iPad 2s and some, including Mike Abramsky of RBC Capital Markets last week speculated that the impact could even be as large as a loss of production between 1.8 million and 2.8 million iPads. Whilst others such as Shaw Wu of Sterne Agee doesn’t believe the Chengdu shut down will have much of an impact at all on iPad 2 production, with other plants picking up the slack.
