According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple will begin volume production of the iPad 5 in July-August of this year. The information on timeframe reportedly comes from sources in supply chain makers in Taiwan.
The information on a July-August ramp up of iPad 5 production contradicts many earlier rumors that had suggested the next iPad release as yearly as April.
As Taiwan’s Economic Daily Newsreports, "high-ranking officials" at Samsung has revealed that the company has not yet received orders for an A7 chip that is expected to be used in the iPhone 6. The fact is reportedly causing speculation at Samsung that Apple has decided to shift its orders for the A7 processor to Taiwan Semiconductor Company (TSMC).
DigiTimes reports that the components for the next generation iPhone will be shipped at the end of may, and the new Apple’s smartphone may appear somewhere in the third quarter. This confirms other reports that iPhones will be released in June or July.
As Bloomberg reports, Samsung has confirmed rumors from last month that it is working on its own smart watch. Given the rumors that Apple is preparing to release its "iWatch" device as soon as this year, it seems that the two rivals will again compete head-to-head in this emerging market segment.
China Times reports that Taiwanese chip company Chipbond has been chosen to supply a number of iPhone 5S’ components, including chips to support near field communication (NFC) functionality, fingerprint sensors and touch display drivers. According to the report, Apple will use the fingerprint sensor capabilities to improve the security of NFC-based features such as mobile payments.
The Wall Street Journal reports on recent Apple’s operations to increase sales in India, one of the fastest growing markets in the world. The company recently launched iTunes and Apple TV there. There also were rumors that Apple was planning to open retail stores in India.

According to Reuters, today shares of German television set manufacturer Loewe increased by 43% as rumors of an acquisition by Apple surfaced. A trader said that Apple is supposedly looking to pay 4 euros a share for Loewe, but Loewe’s spokesman claimed the company was not aware of any offer from Apple.
Nick Bilton shares information with The New York Times that Apple is "experimenting" with a glass-wrapped smart watches, "according to people familiar with the company's explorations." The article notes that Corning has developed a special glass which can be used on the owner's wrist due to its curving.
Brightwire provided a translated report from Chinese media which claims that Apple is preparing the launch of the iPhone 5S and 5-inch iPhone 6 this year:
