Apple Releases iPhoto 9.1 With Support for Calendars
Yesterday Apple released an update 9.1 to the iPhoto'11 application to solve a problem causing data loss for some users upgrading from iPhoto '09. The update also restores support for the photo calendars that had gone missing in the initial iPhoto '11 release on October 20. It adds several new print product options to iPhoto '11 and also improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues:
- Provides the ability to create and order calendars in iPhoto.
- Additional letterpress holiday greeting card themes are now available.
- Fixes an issue that prevented videos downloaded from MobileMe or Flickr from importing correctly into iPhoto events.
- The update is recommended for all users of iPhoto '11.
Apple Has Another 70 acres in Maiden
As you remember, a year ago Apple purchased a property in Maiden, North Carolina, for its data center. It was reported that the deal was about 183 acres of land, but today John Paczkowski from Digital Daily discovered that actually Apple owns another 70 acres on the other side of the street. The information was provided by Catawba County Geospatial Information Services.

Apple may be planning to build the second data center in North Carolina
According to a new report from All Things Digital, two new photos were revealed on the Flickr page of the Catawba County that show two renderings of Apple's site in Maiden, North Carolina - one of them is an existing facility and another one, which is labeled as "Phase 2", has two seemingly identical buildings. It leads to an idea that Apple may have been planning to build another data center, but it remains unknown why the company still hasn't reported anything on such plans.
Rumors on the second Apple's data center site aroused last week when All Things Digital cited some anonymous sources and reported that Apple was examining the suggestion to double its operations in Maiden to 500,000 square-feet. As you may know, the data center in North Carolina is almost five times larger than Apple's current data center situated in Newark, California. It was also announced to be "fully operational" by Data Center Knowledge last Sunday, and Apple revealed it will be opened "any day now".

iPhone 3G iOS speed test: 4.0 vs 3.1.3
Here is an interesting video, that compares two iPhone 3G firmwares - 4.0 and 3.1.3. The recently announced iOS 4 seems to be much slower.
Left: iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0 (8A293, upgraded as restore, without final restore from backup)
Right: iPhone 3G running iPhone OS 3.1.3 (7E18)
However many users report that they have the speed of 3.1.3 on iOS 4.0.
AT&T servers had been hacked
A group of hackers found a security flaw on the web servers of AT&T and after obtaining users’ 3G iPad SIM addresses (also known as ICC ID) from the web made an automated script attack to receive their email addresses.
According to Gawker report, now hacked users may "be vulnerable to spam marketing and malicious hacking". SIM addresses are easy enough to obtain, because many people have already posted their ICC ID numbers in photos published on Flickr for instance. But most of them have their e-mails published too, so it is likely that they have already received such spam.

Cover mock-ups for Jobs' biography book
Few days ago we wrote about Steve Jobs' biography that will be written by Walter Isaacson. While most of the people are waiting for the book to be published, one of the Flickr members decided to think about how would its cover look like.
Here is a series of the cover mock-ups for the rumored forthcoming Job biography by Flickr member flypig:
The last one is commented by its author like this:
No matter what design style the English version will be, after importing to China, the cover will look this way.

Flickr also adds support for the Geolocation via Mobile Safari
Recently Google released "My Location" feature for iPhone. Now it's Yahoo that optimizes mobile site Flickr by adding the geolocation service for Safari.
Use of this functionality is quite simple: just open the home page, click on "NEARBY" and authorize that safari is the website to use the geo.

iPhone's camera is the most used on Flickr
In just 20 days the iPhone has climbed to the top of Flickr and is now in first place among the most used cameras.
This was expected since the release of the new model also increased by 400% the upload of videos to YouTube. The iPhone day after day continues to achieve new goals.
Bluetooth keyboard and iPhone in use
You probably remember a video that we showed you a while ago: communication of the iPhone and the Apple Wireless keyboard via Bluetooth. That video was described by all as a fake. So the author created another video.
Both the keys and the display are in camera focus at the same time, iPhone is in Airplane Mode (so WLAN is intentionally off here) and it uses a simplified mechanism for key event injection (so there is no “VNC running on localhost” icon any longer).
I believe this video is not a fake, but where is bluetooth icon ...?
iPhone and Apple Wireless keyboard
Here's a new video from Raif Ackermann. Raif managed to communicate the iPhone with the Apple Wireless keyboard.
He used jailbreaking and a special software that he wrote by himself.
