Apple announces Q4 2012 earnings
Yesterday, during the earnings call, Apple reported record fourth quarter profits that rose nearly 25% to $8.2 billion. The quarterly revenue amounted $36.0 billion for the three-month period ending ended September 29, 2012. Gross margin was 40.0 percent compared to 40.3 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 60 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Analyst Expects iPhone 5 Sales Will Hit 8 Million Units In Opening Weekend
Following Apple announcement made earlier today that it received two million pre-orders for new iPhone in the first day of its availability, analyst from Piper Jaffray Gene Munster has issued a new research note forecasting that Apple will sale from 6 to 10 million units during the launch weekend. He bases his estimates on impressive pre-order numbers and comparison with last year’s pre-orders for the iPhone 4S. He noted:

The first batch of iPhone 5 devices were sold out in just 1 hour after they went on sale at midnight last night. The ship dates for iPhone 5 pre-orders slipped to two weeks away.
Last year, the first batch of iPhone 4S devices sold out after about a day of pre-orders. Either supplies of the iPhone 5 are less or its selling incredibly well.

iPhone 5 preorders to start on September 14th
Rumors say that pre-orders for the next generation iPhone 5 are reportedly set to begin the morning of Friday, September 14th, according to MacRumors:
MacRumors is now hearing that pre-orders may not begin tomorrow following the media event and that they may instead start on Friday morning in a scenario similar to last year's debut. We're hearing that certain portions of Apple's online sales support team are significantly increasing their staffing levels beginning at 6:00 AM Eastern on Friday, with a major surge for the initial shift beginning at that time and a sustained level of high staffing for at least the remainder of the day.
Last year, the iPhone 4S was set to begin pre-orders at 12:01 AM Pacific Time the Friday following the Apple's media event.
So users are given an extra couple of days to get the money together.
