Apple Is Trying To Combat In App Purchase Hack
Last week we reported that Russian hacker has launched a new method allowing users of App Store to bypass In App Purchase system and obtain paid-in content for free. We also noted that apart from theft of content from developers the method exposed users of iOS devices to risks as their personal information was sent to hacker’s servers.
Now The Next Web issued a outlining some of the actions Apple has been taking to address the problem.
Russian Hacker Bypassed Apple’s In-App Purchasing Mechanism
According to 9to5Mac, a Russian hacker has published a relatively simple method that allows users to obtain in-app purchases from many iOS apps for free.
The method, which doesn’t require a jailbreak, involves installation of two certificates on the user’s iOS device and changing DNS entry in wi-fi settings. Then users can perform purchases of in-app content as usual.
Android and iOS represent over 90% of smartphone market in the U.S.
Nielsen, during the second quarter of 2012 smartphone use continued to increase in the U.S. where 54.9 mobile subscribers use smartphones as of June of this year. Among the acquirers who bought their smartphone in the last three months 36 percent said they chose an iPhone and 54 percent bought an Android smartphone.

The data comes from more than 25 million users and 650000 experts. And the report covers top handsets like the Samsung Galaxy SIII, iPhone 4s, Nokia Lumia 900, HTC Titan II, Galaxy Nexus and Blackberry Curve. Let's take a look at the results:
As far as the iPhone 4S goes, the top 5 most reported issues are:
- Battery Life – 45%
- Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi – 20%
- Bluetooth Connection – 15%
- Siri Complaints – 10%

iPad Mini will probably cost $299
Piper Jaffray, analyst Gene Munster, believes iPad Mini will cost $299 and Apple could sell somewhere between 4-6 million iPad minis this year.

Evidence of Apple Maps for OS X Shows Up in iOS 6 Beta
The code found in the iOS 6 Beta shows that Apple's new Maps application may be making its way to OS X in some form. The evidence was discovered by the developer Cody Cooper through the to several older Intel graphics solutions for which map features such as shading are disabled. Though, it is unclear exactly what form Apple's maps would take on the Mac and whether the references are simply for hooks into map-enabled apps on OS X or if there is some more significant mapping solution coming to the Mac.
Amazon Is Working On Its Own Smartphone To Compete With Android And iOS
Today Bloomberg that Amazon is developing its own smartphone that will be able to compete with Android-based smartphones and iPhone. Amazon is reportedly cooperating with Foxconn to develop the smartphone, the same manufacturer that produces a number of Apple’s handsets, including iPad and iPhone.
Apple Has Removed SMS Spam Application From App Store
Today Russian security company Kaspersky Lab that they had been notified about an app available in Google Play store (for Android) and Apple’s App Store that was quietly gathering data from user’s address book and sending it to the remote servers. Then the developer’s servers were sending SMS spam messages to contacts from the address book advertising the app, with the “From” field being filled with the mobile phone number of the original user.

Google Search Vs Siri In 1600-queries Test
Gene Munster, analyst from Piper Jaffray, today published a research note containing the results of Google search vs. Siri 1600-question test. In the study, both Siri and Google were presented with 800 queries in each of two different environments, a busy street and a quiet room. This is not exactly a comparison of how well two services stack up against each other, because queries for Google search were typed in, but the results allow to find out what potential Siri has as an everyday search service and alternative to Google search.

Google admits Chrome bug responsible for crashing MacBook Airs
Shortly after release of the updated MacBook Airs, a number of users reported that their machines were frequently crashing. Gizmodo noted this week that the issue was caused by the Chrome browser. One Genius technician said that the problem was "the specific combination of Intel HD 4000 chip + flash + Chrome." Moreover, Google has recently accepted responsibility for a kernel panic issue on Apple's new MacBook Airs. Apple is aware of the issue and planning to release a patch soon.

Apple Is Woking On Major Overhaul Of iTunes
Bloomberg , citing people familiar with the matter, that Apple is prepping major changes to iTunes that will be released by the end of 2012. The changes are intended to improve how people find content and how they access materials that they already own on their Apple devices. Bloomberg said that music sharing and iCloud file integration will be heavily featured in the revamped iTunes. Music sharing is most likely to happen through Facebook and Twitter, with which Apple has partnered for sharing content within Mountain Lion and iOS 6.
